Wilson Shock Shield grip: worth it?

It is a great replacement grip and definitely (IMO) provides greater vibration reduction than leather (duh) or pretty much any synthetic grip I've tried. However, I wouldn't expect it to work miracles -- if your racket is uncomfortable and the base grip is still okay, start with making changes to the racket (adding weight, etc.) and try replacing the grip last.

With the Wilson Shock Shield, it may reduce your feel of the bevels a bit so consider that if it is really important to you. Also, the gel cushioning will flatten in time, but it isn't something that I have noticed or is problematic. It will add a little bit of weight to the handle. Finally, it is thicker than most base grips, so if you toss an overgrip on top (I always do), keep in mind that you might actually be taking your grip up a level (e.g. 4 3/8 up to almost 4 1/2 with OG). To reduce this effect, use a thin overgrip like Yonex supergrap.

Agree with @TypeRx it is a great grip and does help with reducing vibration and increasing comfort. Adds a bit of weight to the handle which makes the balance more head light which I like.

Can anyone measure it in mm for thickness?

Looks like it has been done before:

I like the grip a lot for the added comfort and weight. A racquet with a leather grip was hurting my elbow but it hurts less with this grip.

Any tips for applying it? The grip is thick and stiff and I can't avoid bumps wrapping it around the flared base of the handle.

I didn’t have any real issues applying it to multiple rackets but if you are having trouble, maybe try warming it up with a hair dryer before uncoiling and then again while applying on areas of difficulty. Don’t overdo it - warm air only (not hot) and move the hairdryer around not to concentrate the heat.

The amount you overlap is up to you - more overlap will obviously reduce bevel feel and overall length.

bump, what are your thoughts on the feel? Does it mute the racquet?

Ive got a few steam 99 (non s) - 16 x 18 on their way. 70 RA and i'm planning to put silicone as I love that solid feel with silicone. Will silicone + shock shield make the racquet too muted? What're your thoughts

Wilson Shock Shield is an excellent grip! If you have and elbow/wrist/shoulder issues...use it! It doesn't completely eliminate my tenns elbow, but it definitely helps to reduce it.
