Advice needed: Prince Tour 100 : switching ports from exo3 to traditional?

I still play with the Prince Tour 100 (16x18)... I have tried the Textreme 100P but don't like the direct feeling of it :(

Always played with the (standard) exo3 ports. But now recently a friend tipped me saying I could try replacing the grommets with traditional ports, so the exo3 function is removed.

What can I expect when switching from exo3 ports to traditional? Al other things being equal?

Different feeling? More/less power? more/less control?

Thanks very much.

Some people have said the string hole grommets make an annoying whistling sound. It will give you a more direct feel, and will take a little of the power away (by restricting string movement, which is why they feel so nice), it also might feel like you have a little more control (due to less string movement...it would be like a tighter stringbed feels....in essence, less trampoline effect)

What are you hoping to gain from switching? Or are you just curious? (I have string hole grommets, but haven't implemented them yet) I am very happy with how the Tours perform the way they are...heavily modified with lead, silicone, and leather ;) I wish I could mail you mine so you could see how insanely awesome it is!!!

Hi,
thanks for the info.
I like the rackets very much, especially the feeling, but I notice that in "high speed games", the Tours give a little too much "afterburn". I am looking for a little less afterburn (I guess you can compare that to a more direct feel), but not too much since I have noticed that the Textremes gave me a too much direct feeling. Also, I am willing to get more control since I find these a little bit lacking with the exo3 grommets.

I am very much interested in your racquet setup, you can send me a private message via this board. Also, are you able to tell me where you have bought the string hole grommets since these appair pretty much hard to find.

Can you locate any Hole grommets for them? They were an option, but Prince has stopped producing grommets for the older racquets and they appear to be sold out everywhere. Buy them if you find them because that may be the only set you ever get ahold of.

I got them with a prostock frame ;) But, I did see them pop on the big auction site from time to time. Snag 'em if you see em, they won't last long. Also, it might be worth a shot to send TWEurope a message. I just did, and they ordered me some grommets (I am not telling anyone what they are until I have them in my cart and shipping is conformed!!!!) :) Apparently Prince in Europe still is selling some grommets. But it seems you have to ask, and let them know exactly what you want to order. Stefan from TWE was extremely helpful.

What strings are you using?

I have tried several strings. But the best result so far I got with Luxilon Big Banger Alu strings, strung at about 25 kgs. But still I have the feeling the afterburn could be decreased with switching to the traditional hole grommets... It's worth a try though? Don't you think? Only thing is I first need to get them... (traditional holes grommets)

Sure, give it a go - certainly before switching racquets

Port holes just sound funny to me. What not just get the Prince Tour Pro 100 ...short money and port free...keep the other one for times when your arm is tried...

Does anybody happen to know the TX code for the 2014 version of the Prince Tour 100; 18x20 ?

If so please post it,....

And, if the grommets for the 2012 model of the racket are compatible with the 2014 version?

Thanks!

There is a TX-255a frame and a TX-255P which is the prostock frame they are both the same string pattern 18x20
TX250 is the grommets that will fit all TX-250 frames regardless of the letter after 250 :)

I think you might find the racket (without o port) to swing through air slower. I loved my Tour 98 with the o port.

I figured out that my Prince Tour 16x18 grommets fit my Prince prototype 98 (tour paintjob) ported/string hole grommets fit. Although the headsize and shape is different, the side port part is the exact same (and they look drastically different) I will post a pic.
