Rafa and Pablo Carreno Busta are hitting on a practice court.
Roberto Bautista Agut left Madrid due to his father's illness.
Roberto's dad passed away this afternoon. He had been in a bad accident in 2016 and had been in poor condition since then, and Roberto's mother died last year. It's been a tough time for him. Hopefully the team can win for him. :(

Lol how long have you been a Nadal "fan"?
2006 Wimbledon, but I probably would have been a fan even earlier than that if I wasn't an Agassi fan.
I only considered finding a new favorite when I knew Agassi was about to retire :)

Rafa is so intense in this DC!! I mean, he's intense at the best of times but he's really over the top. I know playing at home always puts more pressure on him, and maybe he's thinking this might be his last chance at a Davis Cup, but the guy is absolutely FIERCE.

Gotta love him, the fire never wavers lol

He's in a similar frame of mind to 2010 US Open - mission mode :)
Or I guess at 2010 US Open he tapped into his Davis Cup mindset.
But the power on his shots today is like that US Open too.

Xisca is my favorite enthusiaster, she always knows which reaction to give, whereas I often don't know what Rafa's sister/mother are thinking.
Rafa's father is my 2nd favorite :)

I think Rafa's mum shows anxiety when things are not going well, evident by her body language of looking down at her hands, fixing her top, knocking 'dust' off her sleeves or looking away from the court. His sister and wife cheer enthusiastically and look worried when Rafa is in a tight corner but since the announcement of the wedding Mery has felt able to visibly demonstrate her feelings.

I think i struggle with Rafa's mother because her facial expressions aren't as obvious - her grimace isn't too different to her regular face - but i forgot to study her body language, so thanks for mentioning that.
Whereas Rafa's wife has a face with really clear expressions (and so does Rafa).
Rafa's sister is readable, but her face lacks range.
My favorite moment was in 2011 when Rafa's dad punched the railing at Wimbledon during the final :) and i felt the same way, because Rafa had opportunities but couldn't convert (Rafa obviously lost confidence in a certain rivalry during 2011).

Rafa has been in beast mode this DC. What a rush watching him play! Singles match vs Diego in QF was a bull dozing! Then in SF annihilated Evans in singles and then doubles with Lopez was off the charts in terms of quality. I mean pair Rafa with anyone and they would win. Absolutely incredible.

Rafa at the PC has been asked if being in the final, with Roberto back in the team & winning it could be a happy ending for Rober. Rafa's said no happy ending exists for what Rober is going thru, which is one of the saddest things in one's life.
There are more important things in life than sport. He and the team are very happy to have him back with them and are in awe with Rober's fortitude.

Rafa: "We've only won a tie. We haven't won anything. We're in the final, which is a great achievement for us. The 5 members of the team have participated, which I think gives it more value & don't think has happened in other teams. It's 1am again, we have to go & try to rest."

Rafa: "On my own experience I know these are moments of adrenalin & happiness, but it's time to calm down & decrease the logical euphoria 'cause otherwise tomorrow we won't be ready at 100% & we need to, if we want to have chances, as I've seen them & are playing at high level."

Rafa: "We'll need the best of ourselves. Let's hope we can give the best of us."
