Rafa's coach - Carlos Moya

Diario de Mallorca, Dec.10, 2019
(Excerpts, translated from Spanish via Google)
¤¤ Carlos Moyà will be honored by the Balearic Tennis Federation

Former world number one Carlos Moyà will receive the gold badge of the Tennis Federation of the Balearic Islands at its annual Gala that will be held this Friday [December 13] at Es Moli des Comte restaurant,

The Balearic Tennis Gala puts the final touch to the tennis season, awarding the most outstanding players of the year and Carlos Moyà, the world number one in 1999, for his career. Moyà, who retired from pro tennis in 2010, won twenty singles titles, among them the Roland Garros title in 1998, and helped Spain to win the 2004 Davis Cup.

Moya is considered the pioneer in the island's tennis. In addition to being the first world number one in the island, he motivated the new generations of tennis players. Among other things, Moyà served as Rafael Nadal's mentor [when Rafa became a pro player at age 15] and has been his friend since then. In addition to sharing years on the ATP Tour, Moyà is now Rafa's coach and works at the Rafa Nadal Academy [as the Technical Director]. ¤¤

At 2018 US Open SF, Del Potro still needed a tie-breaker to win the 1st set vs. injuRafa, so I'm very confident Rafa would have won that US Open if healthy.
And we saw Rafa was within 10-8 5th set of beating Djokovic at Wimbledon, so odds are Rafa would have beaten Djokovic in the US Open Final :)
In fact Djokovic was very defensive at that US Open, not hitting many winners, and not good enough to beat a healthy Rafa.

Flashback

A brief video summary of a Rafa fan's vist to Rafa's sports centre/academy this summer:

(y)

The singer whose voice accompanies the video (above) until 1:22 is Spanish singer Julio Iglesias (Enrique's father). He became Rafa's favourite singer when Rafa was a teenager and they have had a good relationship since then.
Wikipedia: "Julio Iglesias is recognized as the most commercially successful Continental European singer in the world and one of the top ten record sellers in music history, having sold more than 300 million records worldwide in 14 languages."

In December 2011, Rafa presented Julio Iglesias with an award for being the best-selling Spanish recording artist of all time, at home and abroad. Whenever possible, Rafa attends his concerts.

Like Rafa, I heard Julio Iglesias' music before I heard Enrique's music :)

It'd be physically impossible to have a smoother voice than Julio Iglesias :)
Enrique's voice is squeakier, I remember Enrique's song played at 2010 US Open Final just before the trophy ceremony "Baby I like it, the way you drool on the floor, Baby I like it...."

Dani Rincon and his RNA partner Abdullah Shelbayh also won the 16s and Under doubles championships too. They're learning well from their master how to handle their championship trophies. ;)

It’s very unusual to get this type of shot and in this light! Rafa was lobbed and he turned to sprint back looking up at the ball. I’m just glad I was on a short lense so that I managed to also get the shadow and ball in!

I call Rafa my lucky player. No matter what point I walk into his matches, he always makes me a cool shot. I’ve been very lucky over the years to get to know Rafa very well and do many exclusive photo shoots with him around the world and in his native Mallorca. He’s one of the greatest athletes I’ve shot in my 38 years shooting all sports and one of the nicest super stars on the planet.

Shooting at the Monte-Carlo Country Club is like no other place on the circuit and the main reason is the beautiful light. It’s crystal clear as it’s not hot enough at that time of year to have heat haze. It’s just magical light in the late afternoon. It’s also a proper tennis club set in a wonderful, magical location. It really does not get any better than this when the sun shines!

I don't want to hear another word from anyone about Rafa's ROS. :censored:

2010-2019 decade stats:

Return Games Won %:

Nadal 33.80%
Djokovic 33.61%
Murray 31.75%
Schwartzman 31.52%
Ferrer 31.18%
Chela 31.06%
Monaco 29.35%
Fognini 27.99%
Dzumhur 27.62%
Goffin 27.61%

* Minimum 900 return games
I think Rafa needs to improve his ROS though. Imagine if he had Novak/Roger level of returning, then he would be nearing 40% RGW

Yeah he'd be even better. Like this year he wasn't even that great off the ground compared to previous years but he still smoked the field because of his improved serve. Rafa really is the greatest player in history off the baseline.

I have never seen anyone living so vicariously through their idol as is the case with octo and Rafa.

I have seen much worse cases and dealing with criminality in some (worse than inmates) regarding Federer fans, that if you disagree with them, they simply deny you access to their sect.

I don't think octobrina10 is living vicariously through Rafa, I think its more of a hobby, like collecting and documenting.
Octobrina10 is not emotional about it, because I don't see negative emotion when Rafa loses.
People who live vicariously through Rafa, will be very down when he loses.
Octobrina10 is very professional whether Rafa wins or loses :)

Rafa Nadal Foundation

Rafa's foundation was recognized with an award by the Fundación AON España for his role in helping the town of Sant Llorenç recover from devastating floods that affected the area in October last year.

The award is accompanied with a cash prize of € 6,000. The money will be allocated to the new Rafa Nadal Foundation (RNA) centre in Valencia, meant for children at risk of social exclusion. This is the RNA's second centre of its type, the previous one was launched in Palma de Mallorca in 2014.

The award was handed over to María Francisca Perelló, the Projects Director of Rafa's foundation and his wife, in Madrid yesterday.

The Fundación AON España website: "The Foundation aims to contribute to building a better society, designing and participating in projects in three areas: Disasters, Social Actions, Art and Culture." (Translated from Spanish via Google.)
