Nadal v Djokovic tactical analysis

Had djokovic straight setted tsitsipas then Djokovic would have beat Nadal with ease.
However 4 hrs today and 3hrs v pcb is definitely a game changer and gives Nadal even in this shape in these conditions hope.
What are your keys to the match?
For me it is dead simple. If Nadal hits the DTLFH well he will win. If Djokovic hits the DTLBH well and better than Nadal hits his DTLFH he will win.
Reason Djokovic went five today was he inexplicably stopped hitting the DTLBH for an hour.
Also as weird as this sounds i think it will help Nadal to lose the first set. Reason i say this is if he does thoughts of no.20 will be far away. Win the 1st set he may get tight and let Djokovic back in then the momentum is with Novak.
Those hoping for an epic will be disappointed. The nerves will take over and this could resemble Thiem v Zverev

Novak just played an extra 90 minutes and the last 30 he didn’t even have to push himself at all. Win or lose on Sunday this SF will not be the reason
Hang on. In rome 2019 djokovic fans say he was tired so his loss to Nadal doesnt count. He only played 2.5 hrs the day before. He has played over 7 hrs past 4 days!!
Bound to be a factor.

I didn’t say that.

and Rafa played just 45 minutes less than Novak today. are we really saying that 45 minutes makes a difference?
Add in PCB match is what im saying. It wont be decisive but it i think stops djokovic thrashing Nadal which i thought was on the cards.

Oh yeah, didn't people say beckerserve was a troll? Wouldn't be surprised, he changes opinions faster than i change my socks.

they both have a full day to recover. I have a hard time believing that playing a couple of hours less would have made a difference If anything it may help Nole focus and it tested him in a way Nadal has yet to be tested.

At least one hour of Nadal’s match was him doing this.

Nadal is extremely vulnerable in this tournament. His match against Schwartzman was better than the previous rounds, but he still struggles a lot. The backhand doesn't work, he is being very passive at times...Actually, even his volleys are bad by his standards. In the third set he lost many points at the volley.

Well it is a suspicious when you make multiple threads in a day with completely different opinions lol. Honestly, man, i don't care if you're a troll as long as you have fun.
Form of players change. So opinions change. I judge off current form not history or legend.

Might help Djokovic be more aggressive and shorten the points which is the way to win. If it becomes a grind Nadal will win.

Djokovic played a long match at night and then came out the next day around 12 or 1 to play so of course he was tired. He has a day off tomorrow. Not the same.
Diego had 2 days off and he definitely fatigued in 2nd set today v a very average Nadal

Neither played well today for any length of time, so who knows!

If it were summer, then definitely Nadal! With these conditions, and Nadal's inconsistency, djokovic has a semi decent chance.

Fitness will be the least of worries for Djokovic. Today he looked fresh and even towards the end of the match looked completely unfazed. Nadal won in straight sets today but played only 45 minutes less.

Diego wasn't tired. He just wasn't as good today because like almost everyone else who plays Nadal on this court, the mental task of beating him is just too much and they don't believe they can.

Nadal and his team have obviously decided to use his hard court serve this RG. I assume because of the conditions. I wish he could go back and forth between his normal more slice action clay court serve, and his faster more top spin oriented HC serve, but I guess he can't consistently.

What did he say in his presser?

Did he say he was tired? If so, I stand corrected because the man knows more about his physical state than I do but it looked more mental than physical to me, like how he just imploded in that 3rd set tiebreak after fighting back from a break down.

You never saw rome master in 2019,
Djokovic played late in Friday for 3 hours grind against Delpo, then it was a dog fight of endless rallies with Diego on Saturday with total time of 2 and a half hour and in less than 20 hours he had a final.
So in less than 48 hours before the final he played brutul 5 and half hours marathon

As I said, fitness least of his worries.

Neither guy is going to lose due to tiredness even if the match is 5 hours, which is quite possible.

That would still be gripping. Even if tennis is up and down. Especially if the match goes 5 sets with so much history on the line and pressure to handle.

Yep that’s what pleases me most. Djoko is physically fine. He had a longer match but it wasn’t that physical. He’s only had a bit longer on the court than Rafa. Novak is more battle tested but Rafa has been efficient sailing through his side. Rafa is slight favourite as this is his turf but Novak knows this is best chance ever in a RG final to beat Nadal. Conditions suit him more and mentally he will believe.

I believe Novak is keeping all his energy for Rafa, plus he hoped he did enough to win in 3 today but mental lapses cost him coupled with Tsitsipas raising his game to high level. Novak let his mind wonder a but came through strong in set 5. It’s very tough to call as the stakes are high and lots of pressure for both to handle. It’s popcorn time. I want Djokovic to win obviously but I respect Rafa a lot too and this is my favourite rivalry. Hopefully they deliver another classic even out of their primes. May the best man win.

I keep changing my mind. Thought Nadal in 4 an hour ago now think Djokovic after seeing Nadal presser.
I’m not sure either. It’s tough to call. I think Rafa is the slight favourite but it could go either way. It will come to the big points near end of sets and who is mentally tougher on them. I think physically both will be raring to go.

For Djokovic it's all mental. The last time he lost at RG to Nadal was 2014. He made changes to the team after deciding that his losses to Murray, Nadal, and Federer in those big matches were about losing the mental war. Since then he's beat Nadal everywhere, including RG, but they haven't played at the event again until now. Unless Djokovic collapses mentally, he will win.
