Wilson nSix-One 95 nCode 16x18 anything to have?

A buddy of mine has this ancient frame in mint condition and I would get it for a beer or two, as it's apparently too heavy and small-headed for his modernized granny-game. I like rather heavy frames play currently with a 95:er so I'm a bit tempted. How is it? When was it released?

i believe it came out around 2004-2005? 6.1 95s are one of the best balanced frames you can find imo. they're typically on the stiff side (although they don't play like it except the k-factor), but the n-code version was a bit more unique because it was a little more flexible and felt a bit softer on contact. it's also a bit more muted but nowhere near what you get with some of the current wilson sticks like CV or blade v7. they also swing lighter than the specs would show. the static weight is quite high for today's standards, but they're quite awesome. the n-code version had some diehards in the past and are always near the top of the list on the list of best 6.1 95 sticks. i'd definitely jump on that opportunity

I had 3 of those back in the day when I first started playing tennis. Heavy, stiff, small sweat spot, not very maneuverable, powerful and accurate are the words that describe that racket. I sold all of mine on e:b:a:y about 8 years ago. Kind of wish I would've kept them.

I'm getting nostalgic over here haha. The nSix-One 95 was an excellent racquet. I experienced the Hyper Prostaff 6.1 and the Prostaff Classic 6.1 prior but the ncode may have been my favorite. It came out in like 04 (?) when I was in high school. However, I already had 2 Babolat Pure Controls by the time I hit with the ncode. There was no way I was convincing my parents to get me another set of racquets. Kind of regret it now. I'd take one in a heartbeat.

Other than it being the second-best pattern that the n6.1 was offered in, there is no reason you shouldn't buy it. The nCode is my favorite iteration by far of the 6.1 line. Go for it!

Exactly. The nCode 6.1 is a GOAT-tier frame. I had three of the 18x20, but would gladly take a 16x18. Wilson’s recipe for that stick was perfect.

I already went out and got it. Thank you all for your encouragement! :)
It needs new strings (any suggestions?) and a new replacement grip. It weighed 350 g but after removing the old grips and replacing them with two overgrips (didn't have an extra replacement in my bag) the weight is now 337 g. This altered the balance quite a bit. Didn't know that the original grip was so heavy. I'll try it with a light replacement grip so that the whole package will be around 340-343 g with an og. It doesn't feel too heavy. Hopefully I'll get it strung during the weekend. Good times! :cool:

If you want to go full GOAT mode with it: leather grip, lead at 3/9, gut mains with ALU Rough crosses.

Then it would end up weighing closer to 360 g, which is a bit too much for me I think. But of course I might try whatever. But gut is out of the question. I have a set of Ice Code and Black Code at hand so I might start with one of those.

It's a great racquet, I played with them when they were launched, in 16x18 too, and I still have an 18x20 version

That thing is a rock solid, stiff and very powerful racquet, the 16x18 is a bit easier to hit with, has a bit more pop and easier to get some spin from it.
Unless you're a super-player you don't need to weight it up, that thing has more than enough mass to deal with anything they throw at you

Like all 6.1's it's a bit sluggish, so you need a strong arm to move it around fast. Don't try to muscle the ball, use the weight and mass to your favor. It's a dream of a racquet for net game, I love it for doubles

I'd advice you to strung it with a soft set up, not very high tension, specially if you have sensitive joints, and see how it goes

Depending on your style and level, it can be a dream or a nightmare of a racquet

But you have to play it with a gut/poly set up at some point. Even if it's just once. It is absolute GOD level with that setup in it.

I didn't get a 95, but got a ncode sixone tour 90 (circa 2006 issue) off of the bay in the past summer as a (relatively cheap) collectible and for stringing practice. After stringing it with a solinco as mains, and a multi as crosses, I couldn't believe that it still weighed at 373g! And it felt stiffer than usual too (from graphite "aging"?), but nicely headlight enough.

I sold off all my 6.1 95 s in both patterns. Last two k factors were sold last year. They are good sticks for pros. PROs! Like del Potro

I would say rf97 is actually a more viable option.

Have three Wilson BLX Six one team 95 18x20 plus a bit of lead tape in daily use for many years now. Absolutely identically weighted to the gram as I got them off the same production line (almost consecutive serial numbers too). ALU Rough combined with Technicfibre Bi-Phase strings. Still good enough to handle international seniors tennis. Always still looking for grommets, I found the last ones on the planet in an Italian sports shop in the alps a couple of years ago! Can't imagine with what I would replace them.
