I won't mention your volleys as they have been discussed already. Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but I noticed that sometimes your loading on your forehand seems to be done out of position. You start loading but then the ball doesn't end up in your strike zone and leads to some awkward adjustment.

not bad at all. good strokes. what are you like a 4.5?

I would quit tennis if he says yea, lmao!

=One thing thats gonna improve your game is footwork. Directional movements are not good... even letting the ball bounce twice in rallies are bad habbits for footwork. You have a lot of chances to move your foot to your strike zone, but instead.. you didnt move and hit it whereever it comes to you. At least knee bend in some of those would be spectular lol.
=serve is okay, its excellent for first year. More follow through and use of explosing up and toward the court will dramatically evolve your serve.
=vollies...way too close to the net... at least middle of service line or behind til end of service line. Good penetration + hand eye coordination... try not to swing so much
=overheads... although you dont have to hit it before it bounces... it will be worth it to know how to hit those. Target serve boxes for nice putaways...

Sorry guys, I will get a better match play video sometime, but as I said earlier, this was at the end of the 6 hour day of playing and we were both tired. Trust me, he doesn't suck.

From the video, you appeared to be a young man. This we played 6 hours and felt tired is invalid excuse. When you get to be 30, yes, but teenagers should be able to keep going.

I thought you had a very good kick serve; this was most advanced or best stroke. I think your first serve is good and you have a lefty advantage.

Take back on volleys was excessive.
You also tend to run or move "high"; I think you'd do better w/ lower center of gravity.

Please post additional videos of matchplay/tiebreaks etc. It is difficult to judge your skill or that of your partner from one video.

I think you'd probably be a 4.0 though. I was in Palm Springs and SF last 2 weeks and I played people that were legitimate 4.0s and I think you'd fit in w/ that group.
I'm guessing also that you like to run everything down?
*edit* saw your location is Houston, you'd be a 3.5 in Texas.

Why does everyone doubt he's been playing for a year?

He said he played for 6 hours. If you play for 6 hours even a WEEK, for 56 weeks, then you'd prolly be that good.

My guess is 99 per cent of the people here probably wouldnt believe that somebody can go from total beginner to a 4.0 or 4.5 in one year, even if all you do is eat, sleep, and play. Its just something that is so hard to imagine , and some of the people here are coaches who've seen hundreds (thousands?) of people learn tennis, so they have a pretty good idea.

In any case, GWB is a good player. Even though a lot of us dont believe him, I think we should just drop the matter, and just enjoy the videos.

Regarding your volleys:

You're standing way too close to the net. You're
like a third of the distance between the service line
and the net. While that may be where you want to
end up when you hit the volley, you should probably
start off farther back, and then move in after the
ball has been struck. Then after hitting it, immediately
move back. Repeat. You're back swing is also
*WAY* to big. No way to have power and control against
any ball that's hit with a decent amount of pace.

Don't blame the feeds. Feeds, while not perfect, look
okay for volleying. Adjust to each feed hit to you.
You fairly short, so I bet some
of those feeds that you though were too high
actually were not and it was mostly b/c you were too
close to the net and couldn't adjust.

good feedback. He does stand too close to the net. That shows his inexperience. needs to compact that stroke. Its not the amount of pace that needs to be generated, but the angle and placement that matters. Perfect example is John McEnroe.

GWB: Get yourself some Mac DVD's and watch him. Slow down his mechanics and that will at least inspire you to shorten those swings. While I still think you have been playing a few years, yoiu still have talent. Someone mentioned a Div 1...that would be inaccurate. Div 1 players have way more power, better footspeed and match toughness. Div 1 players have quite a bit of match play experience so part of the reason they play well in a match. While your strokes are good for practice, you still need work on your feet (that at least shows your in-experience, but foot work also seperates the good from the very good players).

You may not want to hear this, but you seem like a very confrontational person. Or you are very nieve and stupid. You can't post video of your level and expect people to believe you have been playing "serious" tennis since May 2007. If you don't like to stir things up, then you are very nieve and your immaturity shows when people are not with you. You are toio young to understand the real world and Bungalo Bill forgets you are a kid. I don't know if you are lying or telling the truth, but based on your movement, handling of the racquet, your overall "comfort" level on all types of shots (the term comfort was used because you still need alot of work for Div 2-3 tennis. You started way too late for the typical Div 1 level player and if you played one today, you would get ripped 6-0, 6-0. While a Div 3 player you could win a few games each set. Your comfort level leads me to believe you have been playing much longer, but neither you nor I could prove anything on the internet).

Keep working, you are still a nice player.

Well first of all (not to be mean or anythin') your shot selection is very poor. I mean the guy on the other side just basically messed up shots and thats how you won. There were no real winners or anything like that. If you were to play someone who could actually play consistently, then you probably would not win (based on the shot selection). Remember in a tennis match you also have to use the brain! :D

You are not being mean, he asked for people to chime in. You basically state his level is not what he thinks he is at. My last post mentioned he is noi\t the level he thinks he is. While his strokes are "flashy", you are correct in that (at least based on the video) he has very little abiltiy to move anyone around. This is the typical Ball Machine Stroke...looks good against a machine, but play someone with a brain and then it just does not work. If he were to play a "experienced" 4.0 player he would lose most times. He just needs experience and play people that are a good notch above him. Playing people the same level will do no good for him.

He mentions his partner is better, but maybe GWB is in much better shape. I would give them a 3.5-4.0 rating.

He doesn't suck. He is above me on the varsity ladder, we were just both fatigued by that time. It was at the end of the day of filming (around the last hour) but we were trying our best. Thats why I said to watch all the videos because I knew most people would go straight to the tiebreak and judge solely from that.
Hey. Very very impressive for only playing a year or so. Christ, I was no where that good only playing a year. Keep it up would like to see more match play videos.

I love how people say I am very inexperienced, blah blah, and still say that I am lying. Oh well, drop the subject please.

I am about to go hit with Leon & Anthony and we are recording some matchplay. Video probably won't be uploaded until LATEEEE tonight or tomorrow morning.

Nice vids. Yah, I'm not so sure why people think it's impossible to be at your level after just a year. I would only be absolutely blown away if you were beating 4.0-4.5 opponents after only a year. I got to where I was after a short period as well (without lessons), but it took significantly longer to start beating club level players.

I have beaten some champs here. (Ranks go from ZATS to CHAMPS to SUPERCHAMPS) But if I was to give you a record against champs. I think I would be 3-7 against them.

Yay. I got new match play video. You guys says I had poor shot selection and said I didn't hit winners so I was like, fine, I'm going to be a total assh*le and just hit them. Usually when we play a match (my friends and I) We tend to rally for fun. Now I was trying to finish the point.

I'll upload it either later, or tomorrow morning.

Ken get a New hitting partner....

I mean he's not hitting consistently enough to get a good rythmn on the ball.Your only getting 2-3 shots before he splays. You wont ever get better if do this...thats one of the benifits of getting a coach- as a consistent hitting partner. Find a consistent partner ..even who's a higher level..then cherish him :).

Looking at you proper i can believe your story. Not that it matters anyway...Just go out and practice some more :) Goodluck

I got finished editing. Video will be up in 30-45 mins or less.

I have a new hitting partner in this video.

I feel so bad, we usually have fun when hitting, but you guys on the forum wanted me to hit winners so I was doing it the whole day and it got him sort of pissed. (During the match play obviously)

It wasn't the fact that I'm better or he is better, it's that usually we always have fun and laugh but today I was being so serious and hitting winners so it was kind of awkward and.. i dont know..

I believe I meant MATCHPLAY. You have little match play experience and I don't mean JV matches. Others mean less than 5 years of actual play is also inexperience unless the person has played all 5 years in leagues and tourney's. I think some people believe you have been playing longer than 9 months, they never said you have been playing for 10 years...again, you are very, very immature and you need to let it go. Post your videos, but stop with the whining...you should be more worried about girls then a bunch of tennis hacks on the internet, just shows your immaturity.

lol. maybe you have been playing less then a year, because no one goes to practice trying to hit winners.

you go to practice, to learn how to make ALL your shots. That mentality is probably why, matches seem kind of short?

No.. I didn't hit winners during PRACTICE. I hit winners during the matchplay. When I said "the whole day" I didn't mean THE WHOLE DAY, I just meant the whole time we were playing a match since that was what the majority of the practice was. When we were rallying, it was just down the middle, and we did some cross-court drills, when it got to matchplay, that is when I got down to buisness and played like I was in a real match. I got some footage but it's not much since we did not want the camera to overheat in the really hot weather.

Here is the footage: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Bx6TmNwDIgg

There are some winners, not so many errors, and a really nice point sometime in the video.

Enjoy

Eh, I wouldn't recommend Mac technique. He does some weird things with the racquet that you should never even think about doing, but his hands are so good that he can just create things out of nothing. A good person to copy volleys from would be Edberg or Sampras, very classic, mechanical almost, but effective.

Champs are usually decent, if you started beating Super Champs after one year I would call bull. Champs usually range anywhere from 3.5 to 4.5, depending on who we're talking about.

Dude, you are overpowering the other guy. Get some one that is at your level. Your partner's level is by far lower than you.

Anyways, you might want be a little bit more relaxed. Jeez, you are jumping up and down every second, yea its good to use split step, but looks to me that you are a bit too jumpy. Also, you don't want to jump when you hit, esp forehands. Keep your feet planted, it will provide you with more power and more consistency.

I have to agree, his partner had no idea how to deal with the spin and pace combination.

Jumping isn't necessary at all, unless it's a high ball and you really want to try and take time away from your opponent, but you better have some incredible upper body strength, because that's all that is going to be powering your shot.

I used Mac as an example because he is left handed. The serve is different for left handed players and all that goies with it. Mac is more "natural" than Edberg, so I said watch some Mac videos to see how he uses his LEFT HANDED serve to widen out a right handed returner. Do you really think I thouight he would S&V like Mac?

Edberg was perfect and Sampras was terrific. Both would also be fine to watch, but GWB is a lefty and he should use the serve to widen out a RH player. He obviously does not do this based on the video.

I really believe all the advice given is a waste of time. Think about it...he got so good in 9 months. why would he need us? he is just showing off and inviting confrontation. People throw advice left and right..like he will actually use it. He just wants people to say he is good and say how nice he is after only 9 months. The kid is very immature. I mean immature for a 15 year old.

Yes, his partner is not anywhere near as good, yet he still argues even though we see him play on video. He wants us to believe him, but even when there is video proof, he still argues. Unless you totally agree with him, he goes off. That jumping around is part of his ADHD.

Then do everyone a favor and stop posting your silly video clips. Really? Cause at least I am brave enough to post videos online to get critiques. You on the otherhand don't have sh*t. If you can play so well why don't you go and borrow a friends camera and go hit for a couple hours?

Oh and pusher? Here is the definition given by Kaptain Karl

6 - Pusher tennis players win by relying nearly exclusively on their opponent's unforced errors. They block, bunt or poke the ball with the goal of “just getting it back.” Pushers aim for just beyond the T in their opponent’s back court. This target gives them the largest margin for error.

They give you no power, no pace, no depth or placement. They just "get it back.” The strokes of the Pusher are never full and flowing. They have little ability to employ topspin. Any “passing shots” the Pusher hits are hardly intentional. (But they never act surprised when a shot of theirs becomes unreturnable.)

Sorry, Anthony hits with pace, topspin and he has placement. I didn't win all the points in the last video. "Just beyond the T" strokes? Yeah right. Anthony usually hits deeper then me and he CERTAINLY doesn't "bunt" or "poke" the ball back. You can see this in the video. T_T

unlike you, I don't need anyone's approval. I don't need an internet person to tell me how to hit. You are better off working on your game yourself. You don't need anyone's help.

By the way, putting up a video of yourself is not a prerequisite to being a member, its a choice. You now must live with it. Most people on your two threads find you to either be a liar or a pouty teen (I think both to be honest). If you don't want consistent feedback, then don't ask for it. Your partner misses almost every 3-4 strokes. Anything deep with a decent amount of topspin bothers him. His strokes are just barely past the service line most of the time. If he was good as you say he is, I can't tell from the video. He makes almost no popping sound off his racquet, which tells me either the camera's audio sucks (which it doesn't, because I can hear it off of yours) or he doesn't make clean solid contact enough. The sound of the ball coming off the racquet is usually a pretty good indicator that he's not that good.

Once again, we are together on this. The partners strokes are weak and have NO pop at all. The ball sits up for Ken and with Ken's skills, he just blasts away. How is the heck is this kid on the varsity team and Ken just made it? Ken is way, way better. at least a full point (3.0 to 4.0).

That Anthony would make me look like a 5.0...maybe I should put on a video. Just so I can beat up on a lesser opponent and ask for people's opinion, then yell, rant and scream at them when they don't tell me I am great.
