Hercules 880

Any opinions on the Mutual Power Hercules 880? It seems very good...
Otherwise, any other stringers in the same price range (or less :)) that have:

Electronic constant pull tensioning system that isn't influenced by voltage (or auto. dropweight)
Fixed clamps

Thanks,

I dunno but I just ordered a flex 940 and it should be here on Friday so no worries for me....

Well it does look really good. It's kind of tempting but way to pricy for now.
=\
Im still looking for something in a much smaller price range.

EDIT:
smaller price range = <650 preferably

Believe me for that you will probably not get a very good electric machine. The good ones are around 1k. So I would suggest a crank machine.

and scroll down to proffesional manual machines.

Okay...so besides purchasing that wise head thing, how can I make up for the tension loss in a lockout system that is less severe in a constant pull system?

There shouldn't be that much tension loss according to my research of stringing machines and besides people have said cranks are faster than electrics.

The stringer guide made by Mansewerz says that there's up to a 5-10 pound loss! That's quite a lot...

Relatively. You may just string tighter. And that's not really a loss, just looser than if strung with a cp machine. Besides, it also depends on clamping time.

EDIT: Thanks to the help of more veteran stringers (iplaybetter and YULitle) I editted my original posts to say 5-10%. Messed it up there, should be fixed now. Thanks for the help!

Okay so supposing I add 3 or 4 pounds to a lockout tensioning system, I should be good?

AND how does clamping time effect the tension? Does more time before clamping mean there's a greater tension loss?

You got it. The typical estimate for upping tension to compensate for switching to lock-out, from constant pull, is 10%. And yes, two stringers, all else equal, but one has a longer time between tension and clamp, that stringer will have consistently lower string-bed stiffness.

Okay thanks!
ONE LAST THING :)
Just to check, more time between tension and clamp for a cp machine will not have that effect, right?

I'm glad you brought that up. It's not correct. What you are actually getting here is possibly a higher stringbed stiffness. The constant pull is constantly stretching the string out. If you wait longer to clamp you are essentially "pre-stretching" every main/cross (to varying extents.)

I don't want a crank because I prefer a constant pull tensioning system.

This is *not* a constant pull machine. I considered it, but went in another direction because of this. Ask James in very specific terms and he will give you and honest answer. There are reviews at stringforum.net that may be helpful to you. Beware of much of the advice thrown around here -- you need waders to sift through the muck dispensed by the yobbos who have never seen, let alone used most of the stringing machines discussed here. I wish we could have an adults-only section.

So if the Hercules 880 isn't constant pull, what did you settle for?

i string consistently on both and i am faster on the 3k than the neos 1k, by about 4 mins

did i not give a link to you, and i think i might be a better stringer MR. ADULT ONLY
