Tennis Shoes storage

What is the best way to keep and store tennis shoes?

Recently, I bought 4 pairs of Barricade III at a good price (simply love the shoes!), and am worried about them disintegrating if they are kept for too long. I forsee that I may have to keep for at least a year before I use the last pair. Anyone has any advice on what is the best way to keep them, and would I have problem with the shoes if they are kept for too long?

I asked that same question a long time ago. Many werent sure but here is what concensus was.... Keep the shoes in original box with all that paper inside the shoe to keep its form. Also keep those silica gel packets inside. And thats pretty much it. Put in you closet or something.

The best way is to keep them in their boxes, but not before putting them in zip lock bags, to seal out the air.

ummm....thrown in my closet?

OP is asking for long time storage, if you throw them in closet, they'll disintegrate.

This is the correct solution but why the elongated storage time for?

Atennisrand: the OP bought 4 pairs on a good deal, but he can't wear them all out at once, hence the concern for long storage time.

To the OP (Destan): if you're saying you think you'll be able to wear out 3 pairs in 1 year ("I may have to keep for at least a year before I use the last pair"), I would definitely try to take advantage of getting the 6 month outsole warranty on the first pair you wear out at least. Then maybe consider doing a 2 or 3 pair rotation like some people do after that.

As far as worrying about them going bad within a year or two just sitting there in the box in a dark cool dry place like your closet, I wouldn't even worry about it. Even ziplocking them to seal out the air is overkill in my opinion, unless you live in a very humid place where moisture is constantly a big problem. Remember, you may be doing more harm reversely by sealing in the moisture inadvertently during the humid season instead. If an airtight seal is a good practice, the manufacturers would have already done so at the factory to prolong their life while on the shelf.

I think if the shoes are made tough enough to have a 6 month warranty, I don't think they'll just start falling apart in a year or two without use. This is pretty tough stuff and not perishable food afterall. If you're talking 5 years storage or longer, then maybe there's cause for concern. But I think a few years of storage should be fine.

I don't think you need to worry about storage for one year. I doubt it's long enough to do any damage.

That's what I would do, and it's not an overkill by all means...

I would keep them in a temperature (humidity) controlled environment like your closet or inside your home. I wouldn't store them in a basement, out building, attic, or anything that isn't heated/cooled and humidity controlled. They should be fine for a year or two. Can't hurt to keep them in their original paper and box either.
