"When You Compete You Go To Die"

Nadal allways says this when he plays the goat Federer......very humble of him!

i think the message got lost in translation.

"when you compete you go to die" doesn't make sense but
"when you compete you go to kill" does :)

really, i didn't know it was in spanish but certainly makes sense in madrid...., i thought it made sense.....you have to be willing to give all you have even to death (metaphorically i hope) i'm still having trouble getting the exact link but the one above will get you to the site i saw it at....the ticker at tennis.com...if you print the quote into google a number of sites come up, including this thread

you know some of the guys i play with would say "show no mercy" or "take no prisoners" before a match so their mentality is more from the perspective of the hunters than that of the hunted.

nadal is definitely a hunter. he would run up to the net to meet his opponent, jump up and down, and then run down to the baseline start the practice session. that's not the behavior of a meek person.

Excerpt :

Q: We are going to get off topic here a bit but do you think on Tuesday Real Madrid will win ? Do you think there will be some miracles here, in tennis you have made some miracles. Are you going
to follow the match?
A: Of course I'm going to follow the match, I'm a supporter of futbol above everything and a match like that possibilities well I I' not going to loose it. And possibilities, I don't think it has to be a miracle for Madrid to pass but the situation is quite complicated. As a sportsman when you go out there and compete in a competition as important as the Champions' league, you go out to die and to try your best. Even though the result is quite bad for Madrid and better for Barça I think both think that any action can change the score of the match. If everything is OK and if its a good match anything can happen, but its complicated.

tipic prey behaviour to confuse it's hunter...nadal is a prey who tires it's hunter and then gives him the final blow...on the other hand federer is THE hunter, cool behaviour, no need for exces movement, hitting with high precision.
