Don't see Libietis losing to Mkrtchian; slight, very slight possibility of Kobelt going down only because of the poor summer season; Grant beating Lipman? No way. Hmmmmm all three happen to be SoCal boys, Hmmmmm a little home town rooting here? I picked Bogaerts to lose, so that's one possibility. The next top eight seed might be Vinsant over Sarmiento, which tennis7777777 picked, but I don't think a SoCal fan would pick that. So help me out here and be a little more specific.

Look for Morrissey to beat Styslinger tomorrow afternoon.

looking at the main draw, another SoCal name pop up .. Ace Matias ,how did he get into the main draw? is he ranked that high ?

Alvarez (OU) vs. Clay Thompson (UCLA) will be the match-up of 2 college big hitters. I'm hoping Alvarez could stay consistent and take advantage of the more powerful yet less consistent Thompson.

how ? .. he didn't have to qualify ... he's ranked below a lot of players who had to qualify ...

He may have a high enough Regional Ranking, assume they automatically take players from each Region ranked Top 3-4 Regional

Didn't make the trip down there so sorry I can't be of any help.

Can you talk to all you Dawg friends to petition ITA to move this event next year to Georgia tennis stadium who has a pretty nice cam( though no sound) ? or move it to Texas A&M or Stanford(best webcam anywhere). These all good choices for this great event. Not Tulsa who promised ITA a good webcam coverage but did not come thru with it.

Three Sooners in the 2nd round of ITA, Webb is playing Andrews (ND), Alcorta will play Quiroz and Alvarez is set to start against Sarmiento very soon. It would be very interesting to see how the OU-USC duo turns out.

Tennis7777777: Beers for me! Really surprised Austin wiped out Efferding and that Grant beat Lipman. Wonder if he is injured since he retired? Hemmeler not himself this fall. Lin is good, but not 1 and 2 good. Wonder what's up there as well? Didn't think Contini would win as easily as he did and although I picked their opponents only surprised that Powell or Bogaerts won fairly easily. Too late to pick the next round.

The Sooners all play better as individuals than they do as a team.

How about that Ronnie Schneider - the pride of Bloomington, Indiana has taken out both Cal's #1 (McLachlan) and Georgia's #1 (Wagland).

2 out of 3, well done. Wang over Kobelt 6-3 in the 3rd

better than well done.. remember this is the first round... too bad Dennis let me down a bit, but he took the 1st seed to a tight 3... and can't say enough for my 2 SoCal boyz... taking out the 2 and 3 seeds ,and these guys weren't even starters last year..

Down goes Libietis. It could be a Goldhoff/Schneider matchup on Saturday if they both win tomorrow.

This year in college tennis might have some seismic changes in terms of top players. It looks like the top guys from last year have all taken a step back and the new guys are better than last year's new guys.

I predicted this. Johnny Wang is next Jan Michael Gambill or Marion Bartoli.

Jonny Wang, USC (Q) d. Peter Kobelt (2), Ohio State 4-6 7-6 (4) 6-3

well done. I know you get flack here but I actually find your posts informative and refreshing.

Thank you and as for what happened to Morrissey, he wasn't 100 % today. This is still very early in the season and he isn't yet playing at his top form. but as the season starts in 2014, he will be a threat to win the NCAA title. He is that talented.

Way to go Ray. Now a favorite to win this tournament.

Ray Sarmiento (7), USC d. Axel Alvarez, Oklahoma (Q) 7-5 6-0

and Morrissey playing well and up in the 1st set against Redlicki.

So why isn't he in top form? What did he do during the summer? Go to school?

Schneider seems to be the real deal. I saw him beat a ranked player at the UVa Ranked+1 tournament even though he played the second and third sets with a leg cramp. Dropped the second set, trailed 2-4 in the third and was cramping, and won it anyway.

•George Goldhoff, Texas (Q) d. Mikelis Libietis (1), Tennessee 6-3 6-7 (4) 6-3
•Dane Webb, Oklahoma d. Gregory Andrews, Notre Dame 6-3 6-7 (4) 6-3
•Mitchell Frank (12), Virginia d. Chris Simpson, LSU 7-6 (5) 6-2
•Amerigo Contini, Virginia Tech d. Marcos Giron (5), UCLA 6-4 6-2
•Julian Lenz, Baylor d. Nik Scholtz (6), Mississippi 6-3 6-4
•Austin Smith, Georgia (Q) d. Mac Styslinger (16), Virginia 3-6 6-2 6-1

Winston was a very strong junior, top 20 his senior year. Very talented ball-striker and also a really nice kid. Definitely the cream of the crop in terms of the Ivy's this year. Glad to see him having so much success.

It's going to be fun watching him (albeit from a distance) and see just how far he goes, I can't imagine if he stays healthy for 4 years he doesnt have a top 10 or top 5 ranking.
