Still happens today....Babolat Roland Garros 260: it says 16x19 on shaft but is a 16x20.

This was the original, Dunlop got the license to make the same.

I did a total repaint once...stripped it down with chemical paint remover, no sanding. Than a light sanding with fine coarse paper and spraypainted it with black heat resisiting radiator paint that I "baked" on with a heatgun...worked like a charm.
