    Low Tension Club under 40lbs

John Isner strings his racket at 38 lbs. Was at the Delray Beach Open a couple of years ago talking to the stringer while he was stringing John’s racket. I’m currently stringing at 42 lbs with Solinco Confidential poly in a Babolat Pure Aero. After a couple of sessions tension will drop a few...

    Poly with long lasting playability

No, I use the 1.20 gauge… after experimenting with tension, I have been lowering it and now string at 45 lbs. I play 4 x per week. Mostly singles… central FL. Humid conditions. Tension drops 8 to 10 percent after a couple of sessions and then levels off. Racket will still be at 40 lbs during...

    Poly with long lasting playability

Same here … Solinco Confidential maintains tension really well. Will drop a few lbs in the first 2 to 5 hrs … then level off for a while. Excellent string. Hyper G also holds tension well for me. Haven’t tried the soft version.

    Rookie mistakes causing lower tension

I use the Gamma X-2 DW with excellent results! I am also using the floating clamps the machine came with. I think this little machine is great … and have been happier with the job I do then when I had gotten that racket strung at the local shops. Also, I use the Tourna String meter to check...

    Dunlop ATP Extra Duty

It took me a while to realize this: All companies make a budget line of balls, and call them “Championship”. The word Cahmpionship will be on the can. Things is, they will also call the model of the ball the SAME as their premium ball! I have no idea why they do this. It is extremely confusing...

    Dunlop ATP Extra Duty

Some may say I am! After all, I went to school for music .... Oh, Babolat Gold ball ... please note, I am not talking about the championship version of this ball, but the premium version. I thought it played great. Only tried it one time. I rarely see the Gold ball at shops. But it is a quality...

    Dunlop ATP Extra Duty

The Dunlop ATP is an excellent ball. It has my vote for the top tennis ball out there. Excellent feel, consistent bounce and great durability. The Wilson US Open ball is also great ... slightly heavier feel than the ATP, and has less durability than the ATP ball. I also really like the Babolat...

Club switched to Penn Championship balls

The Penn championship ball is a very poor ball imo. They are dead out of the can, and as you pointed out, they are inconsistent. Wilson champs are a little bit better. I like the Dunlop champs the best out of the championship level tennis balls. It has a good feel and bounce, but not the...

What are some drills/techniques to help with preparation?

Make a conscience effort to get your racket back before the ball bounces on your side of the court. If your racket is back before the bounce, you are on your way!

    Solinco Confidential.

What's better than full bed Confidential?

No, that’s not my experience. Hyper G plays with a little more power, a bit more liveliness, and more trampoline. It is softer feeling that confidential. Confidential is a little stiffer, more muted, with less power. But offers more control. I would say spin is about the same. I really like...

    KSWISS HYPERCOURT EXPRESS

I really like the Hypercourt Express II. I think it is an awesome shoe! Very comfortable with excellent support. Hardly have any foot pain after playing hard sets with that shoe. It is a slightly wider fit, which is perfect for my foot. I play 3 to 4 x per week, mostly singles. I get almost 4...

How many people here buy multiples of a shoe they like ahead of time?

I do! When I find a shoe I like, I will usually buy two or three pairs ahead. I get about 4 months from a pair of shoes. Playing 3 to 4 x per week. Mostly singles. Current favorite is the KSwiss Hyoercourt Express II. Great fit and comfort for my foot.

    Blowing through Hyper-G 16....

I would give the Hyper G another try. This time check the tension with the meter right after stringing so you know where you are starting. After a few hours of playing, you should find a tension loss of less than 10% or so. Then is should stay there for for few more hours. Of course, there are...

    Blowing through Hyper-G 16....

Getting a good month from a poly is excellent. Hyper G has very good tension maintenance. And Solinco Confidential also holds tension great. If you had your racquet strung by TW at 57, then shipped over a few days ... by the time you got it, tension would have dropped a couple of lbs as well. I...
