If you are getting a higher string bed stiffness reading after using a lock-out vs. a drop weight, I would say the chances are high that the biggest difference is in the clamps.

They used to be. Now they are not the same. The Laserfibre Quantum line is supposedly made in house. Completely different mounting and clamps.

The grommets on the V1 Classic are pretty wide, but also pretty thick material. Never seen the grommets get really damaged from the mounting billiard.

It's also worth noting that Laserfibre is no longer distributing the Stringway machines under their logo.
