I've played one day at Real Sociedad de Tennis Pompeia up on Mt Juic. It was the only public nice place I could find near the center of town. Nice facility and surroundings with showers and small restaurant for lunch overlooking the courts. If I remember it was around 15E per hour. You maybe be...
A drill that we practice to work on drop shots from a deep position near the baseline, retrieval, and court positioning:
The ball is rallied to the opponent near the doubles sideline/baseline (off the court). You hit a drop shot to the other side. If the drop shot looks like a near winner...
You mention that there is no formula, but ask if the kid is getting better, enjoying it,etc. If so than it may be OK. The kids that are playing this many tournaments are the best and are getting better. Playing this much compared to other kids, how could they not be the best. They enjoy playing...
I guess what my main question is: Is playing this many matches most conducive to developing a young person’s game? Would the time be better spent in practice, drilling, playing practice sets, etc., as opposed to playing so many tournament matches? Would 50 matches be better with more practice...
I have noticed a trend in southeastern junior tennis that the very young boys are playing a high number of USTA matches per year. For 10 and unders, the top players play 80 to 100 matches and for the 12 and unders, 100- 150 matches per year. In Georgia this trend started about 4 to 5 years ago...
To me, the ruling is pretty clear. ITF governing bodies know that the strings vary from 15 to 19 gauges and therefore mixing the gauges is clearly illegal. I don't know how else one could interpretate the ruling. I don't think they meant a 15 and 16 were close and Ok, but a 15 and 18 were not...
I have read in many threads of players stringing hybrids with different gauge strings. How many of you are using an illegal racket setup. According to ITF rules governing rackets and subsequent case rulings:
’1985 - Wording of the Rule - 3 cases added
Case 1. Can there be more than one set...
Coaches at an academy recommended a child who just turned 6 to play tournaments? I hope they didn't recommend playing regulation tournaments against 10 year olds? The tennis in the Atlanta area is pretty good. Georgia stopped 8 and under tournaments last year, all pros in the state know this. So...
This topic would be a good thesis for a grad student. An interesting observation about a past string job. I strung a racket with synthetic gut mains at 45 lbs and Luxilon poly crosses at 60 lbs. The crosses were strung every other hole, so about 10 crosses in all. Needless to say the mains...
Actually, for hard surfaces friction is independent of the area of the surfaces in contact. But for fluid surfaces like this it is much more complicated. It could be that if one string surface or both have a larger area, than the force required to move the string would be less thus allowing more...
Wow, I agree totally with the OP, and have thought this way for years. Some thoughts to ponder:
I have always thought that the reason polys gave more spin was the ability of the poly to allow the mains to slide easier with less friction and snap back. I didn't know that there were studies on...
