Just as an aside I have these shorts:
the white and gold Kei kit in a normal L and they are compression shorts level tight. They must be tailored to allow no extra material in the thighs to reduce resistance, I’m not even that muscular and I look like Nadal during 2021 clay season in them. Definitely don’t recommend unless you try them on first

Really? I have these and the AO 2020 Nishi shorts in M, they're not tight at all. I'm 184cm in height.Just as an aside I have these shorts:

Probably you got Asian size L instead of US size L.Just as an aside I have these shorts:

I don’t find US size running small.

Shorts sizes are the same for each region. They are actually looser and shorter than they used to be though.

I have Asian size and it’s smaller than US size.
somewhat agree that it’s not a full size smaller but I might say between size.
I usually wear L size for US but I wear XL for Asian size.
My family member lives in Korea so If I miss some items in US, I ask them to buy items from there.

Hm yeah I don't know. It could be my pair just shrunk a lot after being washed. The waist is fine but the shorts seem to have a cone-ish shape and get narrower down the mid thigh. It's not too uncomfortable, but does feel weird doing activities in them

Just got my green with yellow stripes Kei top. It’s very nice in actuality, nice soft feel, fit is very nice
