Are There Any Prize Money Tournaments Without Having To Play Usta Tournaments?

Just an idea! Would anyone be interested in matching up with local players in your city and play for prize money through casual bracket style tournament, without having to play in USTA tournaments? Sort of like a weekend warrior just wanting to play for fun, but with the benefit of possibly winning money and not having to play a full tournament schedule like weekend USTA tourneys require.

This is a pretty good sight. You have to look through it. Their site for prize money tournaments is not always up to date but it's the best I know of. Maybe you can write the admin of the sight and ask him to update it.

It's pretty fun to do this. A guy know set this up with 8 approximately 4.0 players. We each paid $25. Winner got $125, runner-up got $50, and consolation champ got $25. It was a good idea and something I would definitely do again. We just started Saturday morning and played first 2 rounds then. Finalists arranged when to play their finals.

You would need someone who can find 8 people of similar skill levels to do this though. I would hate to pay $25 and get burned easily by awesome players.

There is already too much sand bagging going when people are just playing for a pen.

I can't see how increasing the stakes would be something to be desired.

I think it would be fun with your friends/ people you know. Or as an open thing. If you would say 3.5 Money tournament. You'd get a lot of 4.0+

What if there is a tournament sponsored by a local club that is offering money for the winner and runner up. The tournament is not sanctioned by the USTA. If the winner or runner up takes the money, is thier eligibility for typical USTA tournaments or league play in jeopardy?

No. You can be a pro and play USTA open and junior tournaments.

NTRP League play may be different. If the winner or runner-up beat guys like McEnroe and Roddick in a non-sanctioned tournament he might have a hard time getting rated low enough to play in an NTRP league. Accepting prize money alone does not disqualify a player for NTRP league play. Accepting enough prize money to make a living playing tournaments will likely find those players rated 6.0 and above and they would not be found playing NTRP.

Accepting prize money (or for that matter, making money as a teaching pro) only makes you ineligible to compete as an ameteur. So you would not be able to enter all those amateur tournaments we have out there, or if you decide to go back to college you may be ineligible to play on the varsity tennis team

I've played many teaching pros in USTA NTRP tournaments.

I didn't say being a teaching pro makes you ineligible to play NTRP tournaments. I said it makes you ineligible to play "ameteur" events (those specifically labeled as ameteur) and college, until you pass a certain period of time without making money from tennis.
