    The racquet search begins again...

For the past couple of years I've been playing with an Aerostorm cortex (the lighter version before the aerostorm and aerostorm tour became one). I really like how easy it is to swing, especially for my kick serve but there isn't much feel or plow-through, so if I'm on the defensive it is tricky...

    Softening up the stringbed

Usually I string with Signum Pro Poly Plasma at 60lbs but last time I was at the stringers, they were out and they suggested Luxilon Alu Power Spin, again at 60lbs. While I am enjoying the results of this string on my play - I am able to swing hard a lot more confidently than before - the...

Why dont I ever break strings?

I'm not sure if he does, but surely its harder to break strings with lower tensions because even when the strings are forced to move, they aren't made to cut into other strings so hard so the grooves take much longer to develop?

Does this make sense? - tension question

I had my racquet strung with prince syngut at 55lbs last month, and having played with it a lot since then, the ball seems to be dwelling on the strings for a very long time. My technique is not exactly perfect but especially on kick serves, the ball seems to be staying on the string bed for a...

    Pro Staff Question

yeah that sounds great, but the price issue is still there. i don't mind non-current (ie youtek/kfactor etc) models

    Pro Staff Question

What rackets would compare to the Pro Staff, apart from obviously the K6.1 range? I played with a Classic today (flukish luck as I had forgotten my normal Aero Storm) and loved everything about it, the feel, the power and magical "plough through" and, surprisingly, I felt absolutely no arm pain...

    Kick Serve follow through

I have/had a similar problem - I started developing my kick serve a year ago. I would suggest that you follow through to your left (basically across your body, so to your right if you're a lefty) However, the pain (and it became so bad that I couldn't take three straight serves in quick...

    Wawrinka's Service Motion

I watched the Murray Wawrinka match today and was wondering, does Wawrinka have some underlying knee injury or something because it looks like he has practically no knee bend on his serve. What got me confused is that he still hits 135mph on occasion, which is only really 5-10mph behind Roddick...

Split step adaptability for other sports? Volleyball?

Obviously this isn't a split step but in aspects of different disciplines of ice and inline skating, weighting is a huge part of it. Likewise, it helps a lot to be light and balanced on your feet, particularly in hockey.

    Please rate my game...

In my humble opinion, quite significantly higher than a 2.5 (maybe as a high as 3.5). Technique looks reasonable, but did the backhands actually go in?

    Help with Friend's Serve

Fantastic knee bend but from there on, its all gone to pot. First thing, actually utilise that knee bend and explode into the ball, something which having a more disciplined swing would help.

    day-to-day consistency, anyone?

One thing I did notice is that if you feel confident or jumpy, you play better than when you're tired. Anyhow, guess I should make use of the ball machine.

    day-to-day consistency, anyone?

OK here's the thing. This week, I played (for me) unreal Friday through Tuesday, power, placement, spin - the works. Now, since then, which is admittedly only about 3hrs of court time, my game's been completely off. Somehow I managed to win a set 6-2 but I can't seem to get any power on my...

    serve: ball toss

well i'm always told to have the toss for the flat serve out in front, certainly not behind.

Most you've played in one day?

7hrs, but that includes a lunchbreak and also the first 3 hours were group training so not too intense.

Is sliding on hard courts recommended for recreational players?

Yeah I hadn't realized that before but I was playing for the first time in a few years on red clay in Croatia and literally couldn't slide.

How long did it take you to reach 4.0 level

I've had group coaching since I was 8 but had long breaks for the soccer season until I was 11 then missed a year living in China. By the time I actually started taking tennis seriously at about 14, I was a 3.0. Two years later and I'm a pretty solid 4.0.

how to hit a tennis groundstroke that takes off when it bounces

Yeah with slice, you can hit an effective enough shot just by leaning into it, barely even swinging. Admittedly that's on grass though.

    Importance of follow through

Also if you were swinging hard and intentionally stopped your swing at contact, you would probably end up damaging your arm. It just doesn't feel naturally, particularly when swinging hard, to NOT follow through.

How do you wrap your overgrip?

I accidentally wrapped my dad's one the wrong way and he doesn't seem to mind. In fact, he seems to like it because it makes the undersize grip feel bigger, apparently.

    Rate this serve

The only thing I can think of is that your left foot seems to be coming over too far to the left.

great all-round technique, although your opponent didn't look too demanding. 5.0+ I guess.

Babolat pure control team vs Babolat aero storm tour 2008

Well I'm not using the AST, but I can say that the AS is a great racquet. The perfect blend of control and power, as well as a slightly denser (than Pure Drive) string bed, which once again makes for controllable power and lots of spin. By the way, mine's strung with NXT 17 @ 55lbs, but I've...

    backhand diagnostic please

The weird thing was that my slice shots, which I never hit with sidespin, were bouncing not far from 90 degrees, so the wind may have been a larger factor. That said, the problem didn't occur when using topspin.

    backhand diagnostic please

one handed, grip: 1/2 way between eastern backhand and semi-western
  27. N

    backhand diagnostic please

OK so today I was playing and I noticed that there was a lot of (slowish) sidespin on the ball, which had no effect other than the ball driving through the court less. Admittedly, it was very windy so my contact wasn't too clean, but what other factors could lead to this effect and obviously...

    Your Fastest Serve

Yeah, the irritating thing is that I don't usually play against people who serve much harder than maybe 75, meaning my return game is quite under-developed.

Do you wear a jockstrap playing tennis?

some shorts have an inbuilt elastic underpant-type thing which seems to serve the same purpose as compression shorts.
