No problem. I saw the title as well, but questioned a comment that said mixed and combo leagues didn't generate strikes or didn't count towards ones rating. Just wondered if this was true, then how was my situation different then the norm?

Our captain recruited players from other districts knowing that they would play with thrir other team if we both got to the sectionals. We won our league but we lost five guys from our team when we started sectional play.

I believe (from my own situation) that combine matches count against ones rating. I played for several years at the M4.0 level and then left USTA for 3-4 years. I came back and self rated at 3.5 and played about 5 matches winning 4 and losing one against opponents who were being bumped to 4.0...

Congratulation. I thought by the first sentence that maybe you hooked him on calls or something. There is no shame in outthinking another player. Tennis would be very boring if we all played the same.

If you go to the main USTA website, there is a "Play Tennis" tab. There is a box in the upper left corner called "It's your game" where they have three clickable sections - (1) Partner, (2) Court, (3) Program. Don't know anything more about it though. Good luck finding what you are looking for.

Where we play there a couple of 4.0 teams that a good smattering of 3.5 players playing. Don't know if they want competition, hate being labeled 3.5, or some other reason. So you should be able to play up as well if you don't get bumped by joining a less competitive team.

I echo everything here. I think you are used to good players feeding the ball to you so that both you and your practice partner get practice at hitting baseline strokes. But match play is much different. People generally are not going to "feed" you balls that you can just stand back and whack...

Where does this "topspin only" mentality come from. So I'm less of a men or player if I don't play the your game to beat you. I thought the object was to win.

Don't think it really matters what bag you bring to the courts. I play with a guy that puts his racquets in an empty ball hopper. Go figure!

I understand rules are rules, but if a person foots faults now and again and they are a baseliner then i'm not going to get terribly upset. If it happens with a we've and volleyer then that is totally different. One is taking advantage of a rule, the serve and volleyer is cheating.

Amen to that. So he is supposed to beat you playing your game. That is so assinine. Whatever works within the rules is my motto.

I find that hitting with the same person tends to get boring. I like the variety of different people that can create surprises and shots you haven't seen before.

Is there a listing/publication with the string ratings based on the various makeups (multi, polyp, hybrid, etc.), or is that only available to the stringers?

I do break strings after several weeks, but with four racquets the string jobs seem to last much longer. I've been playing with premier for a while and have just moved up the gauges from 16 when that didn't break. Just figured 18 gauge is better than 16 gauge.

I tend to use them more for spin and control. Since I don't break strings I've moved up to a more premium type of string and a thinner gauge without I guess having to compromise. I've heard that Premier is the best rated non-gut string available; and I don't have the need to play with polys.

This would suggest that those that live in MD could only play in the county where they lived, i.e. Montgomery or Anne Arundel, but the VA district is simply NOVA. The USTA already destroyed the Men's league in PG County with their indistriminate moving up of players. The players simply got fed...

I wonder if this is why the Sectionals are held in VA every year for the past seven years now.
