    tennis books

I really like the ebook at http://www.**************.com/. It's written by the guy from Feel Tennis. Totally changed my perspective and attitude when playing down a couple of games. If I recall, the purchased book comes with an offer to email Tomaz directly with questions, which I took up...

I see. Out of curiosity, do any ATP pros use a hammer grip?

Most important tip on the forehand technique

This picture of Djokovic looks like he is uses a hammer grip. Are there any pros that use a hammer grip for the forehand?

Most important tip on the forehand technique

I've read on this board that Nadal uses a pistol grip for his forehand, while Djokovic uses a hammer grip. Is this true? I would think with all of Nadal's topspin he uses a hammer grip, for the spin/power over consistency trade-off.

    4.5 hitting with D1 woman

This is some good insight. The other day I saw the Seattle City regionals (or something) for juniors, and I was blown away by how good some of the 10-12 girls were. It was like watching a fake, photoshopped video of serious tennis players playing, only with the players substituted with little...

what's the best build serve from scratch material?

If you think you are arming the ball too much, check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLcznUls5CI. It really taught me to use momentum for my serve, which was the big 'A ha!' moment for me.

    Tennis Camp

Sureshs makes a good point. Unfortunately, I think he is probably better off getting a labor job than trying to mix his passion with a means to make money. I think it would be disastrous if he spends his savings only to be burdened with a huge headache. But yeah, pretty harsh turn of events...

    should i or shouldn't i ? (go back to 1HBH)

If you are looking for 'success' stories, I was in the same boat for the past year. I've been using a two handed backhand since I was 10 or so. The past year I attempted to switch to a one hander, not just because of how elegant the shot is, but because of how much more fun and satisfying...

Specialising in one area or being an all-rounder?

Imo you are wasting your talent then. I'm not quite sure why you think developing a serve boxes you into a one-two punch style. Are you assuming that your coach is only set on developing players like that, and you are completely submissive to his influence? If your ground strokes are...

Specialising in one area or being an all-rounder?

Sounds like the same excuse uttered by every player who is not a good server, ever. It's like the people who say they prefer just to rally instead of playing games, because they find games slow and boring. But they also fail to mention that they deal with pressure badly, and play games at a...

    Indoor courts in SEATTLE?

Amy Yee has free same-day reservations, and if you book later in the 8:00 block, you should be able to find a court. I usually go there on weekdays at 8:00, as not many people show up after to bump you off, so you can get in a good 2 hours+. However, on a friday night, people might be willing...

To scream or not to scream.

I agree. Non-tennis fans always crack jokes about women screaming when tennis comes into the conversation. Does not help tennis's image.

Double-bend forehand more amenable to western-grip players?

Would like to bump this interesting post. Has anyone else tried this? I've been using a western hammer grip (index 5, heel 4) for forever, and trying this 'extreme pistol' with an index on 4, bevel 4.5, produces an even more closed racket face. I can't even imagine what using this pistol...

    Gonna do it

Haha, I'm in the same camp. I considered switching to a 1hbh because of how satisfying it felt to hit with, and because I could hit it great in co-operative rallies. But when it came to playing sets and I started getting moon-balled, was not fun. I'm going back to a 2hbh but trying to clean...

Thoughts on Status, Progress in Rec Tennis?

Depends what your goals are. If you actually care about improving and are losing most of the time, I think you are fine staying with your group. At least until you start beating them consistently, then I say you start looking for new competitors :). You should be losing more matches than...

Never seen Nadal play this bad

His mistakes are pretty symptomatic of painful blisters. He is hitting his forehand so weakly that his mishits are bouncing on his side of the court rather than even hitting the net. I wonder what shape his hand will be in if he makes it to the next match.

wrist flick for topspin with semiwestern grip

Do western grips benefit more from the SSC? I've been pronating during the take back of my forehand for years, and have gradually become more western as it felt more comfortable to do so with. I didn't understand why I would get so much more spin pronating during the take back, and I worried...

Favourite Head Line of all time?

I love the Ti Classic and have actually been trying to get my hands on another 4 3/8 one. I have a Youtek Prestige Pro that I don't like much, and the racquet just has a "hollow" feel on contact compared to my Ti Classic. I believe this to be a result of the newer material used for the frame...

What forehand grip do you think he has? With his swing path and bent elbow I'm guessing it is a pretty western grip but I'm not sure.

Why're People so Hesitated to Play Games?

Well here in the Seattle area, I've had the same experience aforementioned. It is very rare for me to find someone around my age (22) that wants to play actual sets, which is disappointing for me. Most of my peers just like to rally and hit hard, which can be fun, but obviously translates very...

    Returning Topspin Shots Video

Are you using a video of hitting with a 14 year old kid to prove your shots are effective? How do you know he is miss hitting because of your sudden surge of lethal topspin, and not because he is 14, inexperienced and inconsistent? I would think switching from a flat shot to a slice would...

Coaches on Here: Is the Pro Continental Grip for Real?

When people say a continental grip for slices, they mean a pistol 2-2 grip right? Since I would think a hammer 2-1 grip would be impossible for a defensive slice on a low ball. But when people say pros use a continental grip for the two handed backhand (say Agassi or Djokovic), is it always a...

Coaches on Here: Is the Pro Continental Grip for Real?

Very informative thread. Explains my confusion with the continental grip over the years. A couple of questions: Is it safe to say that the pistol grip (2-2) is preferred for volleys and slices, as it promotes a firmer wrist with less action? And the hammer grip (2-1) is preferred not just...
