Low, low tensions. 30lbs feels great. 20lbs pretty good, too

So I cut my low tension poly out and put back in gut/poly (proportional stringing this time). I got a lot of spin but in the end, the gut poly gave me a better feel (and is a touch easier on the arm) and enough spin. I didn't really feel I suffered in control. But if this makes sense, the low...

ProPenn last a lot longer than the $2 Penn cans

I think they feel different. To me they are 'crisper' but not harsh. Its the regular wilsons or penns that feel like mush. I just bought another case of the pro penns.

Double faults from using shaped strings??

One day I had two identical racquets one with multifilament and one with poly. After hitting 20 or so serves with the multi I picked up the poly and the next 10 balls I hit into the net.

    The gut/poly thread

why gut crosses instead of mains? Since this thread is about gut poly and predominantly about gut mains and poly crosses Figure 5 — Hybrid Comparison. Gut mains seem to be the secret to achieving the slipperiest combination. Polyester is next and then nylon. However, the cross string seems not...

    Sergetti Stringing - WOW!

In theory, the sweet spot is larger. That should result in a more consistent hit. How many times have you missed the sweetspot on a touch shot and watched it go into the net? Or had a shot fall short and make an easy return for your opponent? Take your thumbs and press down in the middle of...

    Sergetti Stringing - WOW!

Well I bought a Seregetti sheet for a reference tension of 55 lbs. Apparently if you use 55 mains 50 cross you should use 52.5 lbs. What is making me pause is the crosses 10 lbs higher in the middle with one of them being 69 lbs. Since this is gut poly hybtrid, that has given me some second...

ProPenn last a lot longer than the $2 Penn cans

Well I do notice that the felt on regular Penns are crap after an hour of playing and the ProPenns are still playable at least on my usual courts. So it might matter in a match. Stick the balls in a ball keeper or pressurizer and they can last a long time. The pro's seem more consistent to me...

    RAQUET WITH LOW TRAJECTORY ANGLE

No no...I think there is a misunderstanding here. I defined do NOT want him to hit lower shots. His shots just come out low as it is with whatever racquet he plays with. You did start out asking for a racquet with a low launch angle. I just wanted advice on a racket that will adapt to his...

    RAQUET WITH LOW TRAJECTORY ANGLE

If you want a ball to travel farther you have to make it go faster, increase the launch angle, or decrease the top spin. My guess is if you give this kid a racquet with a different launch angle, he will adjust and be hitting it the same inches off the top of the net in short order. "m1v1 =...

    RAQUET WITH LOW TRAJECTORY ANGLE

I'm just brainstorming here. My guess is he has some spin on the ball. I've also noticed less tension in strings launches higher. How about a full bed of natural gut at 60 lbs? Might have a bit less spin, play to his strenth, might add a touch of drpth. 60 lbs should be very flat. Gut...

Getting VS Gut/Luxilon 4G for my Birthday

I just strong 56 gut 50 copoly on my last stringing i started with 56 53. It does seem to last a a couple of months and I think your goal of 2-3 with rotation is realistic I find after awhile I get some fliers and start hitting long, and it is time to restring. This time I am only going to...

Low, low tensions. 30lbs feels great. 20lbs pretty good, too

36lbs fresh Wilson revolve copoly 16gauge today. Just casual doubles tennis. I'm a believer. Really easy to generate a deep top spin ball without having to hit the cover off the ball. Might have launched a little higher but the spin brought it down. Nice large sweet spot. Very easy on my...

Natural gut is on sale now by about 30% at most vendors, including TW

I say give it a try. In the overall scheme of things a gut string is really not that expensive. Considering they will hold tension longer and you might save a restringing. You might consider if you are at all into tennis, getting a stringing machine. I honestly think it is swing, strings...

Same racket. Same tensions. One Poly vs. One Synth

In general, I would say poly will have less power, more spin, and be less arm friendly.

How durable is the soft rubberized coating on new Wilson Pro Staff 97?

I’ve had the blades for a year with the rubbery paint. I have a couple of chips from stringing and some marks from the clamps. Something I don’t see with a regular paint job. I’ve made some soft plastic pads for the clamps and careful not to clamp too close to the frame. On the court, I’ve...

Blade alternative with a bit more spin and higher launch angle?

I demoed a lot of racquets last year including some frames with different strings back to back. I was surprised at the difference in spin and even launch angle that strings provided. Much more so than the frames.

    Holding/absorbing the ball

yes rather annoying on the other hand I have been playing with some beginning tennis players and have told them to absorb the ball as they often end up swinging just their arm or not accounting for their momentum when running up on a ball and hitting the ball too far so I think its a valid...

    The gut/poly thread

Strung up mains Wilson gut 16g 56 lbs and crosses Wilson revolve 16g 50 lbs. i strung the crosses 50/50 and tied it off to itself. The thought is it would slightly easier to change the poly. So a year into the gut/poly playing and I went to a full gut bed but noticed I really wasn't getting...

Does countervail actually do anything to reduce racquet vibration?

Well in my opinion. The feeling is not the same as having a string dampener but I can see why you would equate the two as the sound is similar. CV might not be everyone’s. Cup of tea, but it does cut vibrations, Personally I think it has plenty of feel, I can still tell where it hit on the...

    The gut/poly thread

Well I went to all gut in my latest stringing. The hawk became dead too quickly and really seemed to narrow the sweet spot when it did. The lynx aged better. And quite frankly, for the casual doubles tennis I’ve been playing and my age, all gut is a good combo.

    The gut/poly thread

16x19 blade 56 lbs gut and 53 lbs poly maybe the lynx was dead, the gut was pretty notched by the time I restrung i was going to try revolve with wilson gut next restringing RS Lyon seems to be less slippery than revolve or head hawk?

Do expensive tennis balls get less flat?

Pro penn extra duty marathon seen to hold up better for me than regular penns. In particular the felt and color. They seem to be decent at holding pressure but I also built a pressuriser to run the through.

Eliminating unforced errors on first volley when approaching - footwork

I would say you can let your serve dictate your approach and let your natural momentum carry you forward. On a weak return you can be inside the service line.

Eliminating unforced errors on first volley when approaching - footwork

I believe if you get your racquet on the ball and don't return it, hit it wide, long or into the net, double fault, that is an unforced error. An ace or shot that you can't get to is a forced error. That's always been my understanding.

Exactly and this applies to baseball, tennis, golf and I suppose cricket which I have never played. All the concepts of waiting, lagging, accelerating late, etc. apply to these pendulum swing sports.
