Is Stanislas Wawrinka the modern day Jim Courier?

You are only judging what I call vanity characteristics when you look at athletes. Like when athletes are more concerned about looking like an impressive athlete with leaps and over stretching on plays for the highlight reel. Leaves you falling into the same trap of thinking someone is better...

    Most improved player lately

Mischa. He's been very good. Two good showings against Federer on grass too if you compare how others went down against Federer on that surface. I don't count Federer losing to Haas in Germany since he clearly wasn't interested in that.

Is Stanislas Wawrinka the modern day Jim Courier?

Agassi had the ability to move quickly and he was agile. If by agile you mean flexible then that has nothing to do athletic ability. Agassi is probably the greatest in history in having the skills/talent to react quick to tricky and unexpected situations as you put it. He took the ball on the...

Where are the big hitters these days?

I wish he'd go full out serve/volley every point. His topspin serve bounces over the head of even the very tall players and he's capable of the volleys as well. Not sure he could get 3 steps in before he split steps, but he sure can get two long strides then split.

Is Stanislas Wawrinka the modern day Jim Courier?

Just because someone is faster doesn't mean they are a better athlete. Just a different kind of athlete. You can be extremely athletic and not be as fast in a short sprint as someone who is less athletic. He was an amazing athlete. You may associate modern players as being more athletic...

Is Stanislas Wawrinka the modern day Jim Courier?

Where did I say he was the best athlete? I was defending him against your man crushes on the big 3 from today's game. You act like he wasn't anywhere near them and that's just not true. You must not watch or can't comprehend what athletes and coaches do when they talk to the media. They...

Is Stanislas Wawrinka the modern day Jim Courier?

Why because I said someone was as good an athlete as one of your poster boys? Agassi not near as good an athlete? Maybe 2005 was too generous and you may have started in more like 2012.

Where are the big hitters these days?

Courts are slower and poly took over. There is less reward for going big because its easier to get to and get set plus with poly strings players are able to take better swings off balance and still keep the ball in the court or even hit winners more often. The game has fallen into a rut where...

    Is thiem's backhand any good?

I like it. Always like when he takes big rips with it and trying to attack more. Not as fun when he falls into playing more dinky doo tennis.

But you do come off as some fanatic. Someone who can't stand to hear that your favorites of right now aren't god-like figures miles ahead of everyone in history as athletes. My favorite is Pat Rafter hands down. Never the greatest player for sure, but he's easily as good an athlete as the...

Do you think any of the big 4 have been on PEDs at any point in the last 5 years?

I don't pull for any of the top 4 or like them as players so I have no angle so my opinion isn't based on liking/disliking any of these guys because of fandom. Perhaps they are/aren't taking illegal stuff. I can't argue that they definitely aren't because I've seen normal guys and lower level...

Is Stanislas Wawrinka the modern day Jim Courier?

As if he would say anything else to the media. You don't know pro athletes or much about Agassi if you don't think he would back himself all day in his prime against Djokovic. All the players today must be better athletes because you watch them today right? Sure.

Do you think any of the big 4 have been on PEDs at any point in the last 5 years?

Andy's brother will certainly not being doing the same fitness routine to play matches that aren't anything like what Andy plays day in and day out. Their bodies may not react the same way to training anyways as they are different people. I just don't think any of their bodies are out of...

Do you think any of the big 4 have been on PEDs at any point in the last 5 years?

These guys make a living primarily on their legs. You better believe they are hammering the crap out of them in workouts. Lots of these guys have big legs. Again not everyone is the same and some might have bigger looking legs and obtain them easier because that's their body.

Do you think any of the big 4 have been on PEDs at any point in the last 5 years?

Before say the 2000s I think it was common for young players to save their money and not pay salaries to guys for fitness and nutrition until they made more of a name for themselves. Saving money was more of a priority. Now with advances and more money on tour, the young guys are coming up...

Do you think any of the big 4 have been on PEDs at any point in the last 5 years?

Yes the evidence would be more in the endurance and recovery rather than what the players look like. They won't be enchancing to get huge.

Do you think any of the big 4 have been on PEDs at any point in the last 5 years?

Nadal was like 17 in 2004-2005 and still growing. The guy has genetically big muscular arms. He isn't as muscular as he seems with the sleeveless shirt. It just so happens to highlight the part of his body that looks the most muscular. Toni knows exactly what Rafa is doing don't let him fool...

Do you think any of the big 4 have been on PEDs at any point in the last 5 years?

They don't all have the same genetics, fitness goals, or training plan. They do whatever fitness plan that they think will best benefit what they want to do. Djokovic has a very tall and slim frame. He has muscle but its longer muscle. Federer I would imagine doesn't put as much focus on...

Is Stanislas Wawrinka the modern day Jim Courier?

I guess we need to give up. The guys who are playing right now must be the greatest thing to ever happen to sports ever in the history of the universe. No one could possibly come close to their god-like athletic ability. Maybe those three invented athletic ability. Maybe in 20 years people...

Do you think any of the big 4 have been on PEDs at any point in the last 5 years?

I wasn't implying I played/trained as much as them, but I was pointing out that I do push my body to the limit and have considerable muscle because of proper diet. They do get to rest. There are weeks that go by a lot where they don't play in tournys. A lot of it is serious training but you...

Do you think any of the big 4 have been on PEDs at any point in the last 5 years?

It's all about calories put in, calories burned, protein, rest, and genetics. I train/play 5 days a week. I have an extremely strict diet, fitness routine, and strength training. I pretty much have the same build as say Dimitrov, but I see your point and even though I play singles/train a lot...

Federer setup: Natural Gut mains, Luxilon Alu Power Crosses, why?

He grew up playing with full gut. It's a way to have some of the feel of the gut as well as some of the added spin benefits. Pretty sure it's been said that he has the poly crosses primarily for the spin generation. Plus I think he still uses string savers as well. Pre applied i'd guess...

Do you think any of the big 4 have been on PEDs at any point in the last 5 years?

You can get noticeable results in 3 months or so with hard work and diet with no supplements at all. Which should be done anyways so you can actually tell when you've hit your wall and then see which supplements actually benefit you. The question of players taking illegal drugs wouldn't be...

Is Stanislas Wawrinka the modern day Jim Courier?

He was quite beat up at that point but still a force. He would slip into beast mode still and just start bashing everything for winners from time to time with hardly any unforced errors. But the game was also slowing down around 2000-2001 and more baseliners were coming in than serve/volley...

Is Stanislas Wawrinka the modern day Jim Courier?

Sorry but there's no way you watched tennis in the 90s. I never really cheered for Agassi or Sampras, but this thinking that the big 3 of today are just these supermen compared to the past is crazy. It's Andre Agassi. It was outrageous how good he was during a fast court era. I'll take...

Is Stanislas Wawrinka the modern day Jim Courier?

I'm sorry if you still remember Agassi in 2003 but the guy was playing in the 80s and he was not slow and if you claim to have watched that era then you are lying to yourself if you think he wasn't explosive. You're talking about probably the most gifted baseliner of all time. You really need...

Is Stanislas Wawrinka the modern day Jim Courier?

I had that same discussion with a buddy of mine recently. It came up that he thought the players in the 90s were better athletes or were just more explosive in movement. Something to effect. We discussed maybe the athletes who play tennis now are less skilled in general because there's more...

Are the courts going to get faster?

Clay court specialists have historically always stood that far back even on faster grass and hc. It was an annoyance to serve and volley players because their steps into the court then split step was a very organized system and staying deeper disrupted the timing of the split step. If they...
