    Prostaff RF 97 Vs Dual G 330

I've been play testing both for a while (along with other player racquets), the RF is very good and has all the right attributes for me but the stiffness is too much for my arm these days. Yonex 330 is a hammer if you have the game to match its capabilities.

    Gosen Proform Tuff 16 Discussion

Gosen Micro and Pro Tuff are underated strings...using both for over a decade. I've found light pre-stretching helps with tension uniformity & maintenance for the long-term. Likewise, Forten 15G is also a great value but just a notch below in quality (my opinion). I've had tension maintenance...

    Becker world champion racket

I played with the Puma frame back in the late 80's. Soft flex geared for serve and volley types (Becker's style). It was fiberglass constructed primarily with a foam core (I believe). The frame also had an adjustable grip which you could extend via a screw at the end of the butt cap. Gotta...

    Great-serving Frames List

I tried the Dunlop 100 4D recently and the thin head, aerodynamics and flex made me feel like I was serving with a cannon. Interesting stick :)

Prince Precision Mono - is anyone still using it or hoarding them?

My hitting partner still uses them and just gave him a couple I found in my closet. He sometimes goes into my bag and pulls out a stick or two to try. Probably hits the best with the Technibre 325...which you may want to give a test drive.

13 year old boxer prodigy MMA fighter similarities to tennis

...loved video and the kid's work ethic/desire but don't see the something "extra" to take him to the top level of the sport (boxing/MMA). Likewise, I think you need the something extra to separate yourself from the average to "make it" in sports and tennis specifically (foot/hand speed...

    ***Dunlop Aerogel 1hundred (AG100) club***

...just tried the 4d 100 in some competitive doubles and nailed some of the hardest forehands/serves I've ever hit. The combination of stability, maneuverability and pop is interesting. The racquet was strung with solinco tour bite around 55lbs (bought 5 ea from a buddy who didn't like them)...

POG - Why so out of vogue?

POGS are such great sticks for doubles, especially on the second serve but I ended giving them to friends who are beginners or others who used them for most of their playing career. I find POGS are good in some areas (spin production, large face) and a liability in others (cumbersome in quick...

    Tecnifibre TFight Line

You might way to try the Technifibre 315's, probably the closest in the TF line...I loved the Head MEPMP's but yes its a little too stiff, heavy and balls do tend to sail, especially on the slice. Another comfortable alternative is the Head Instincts and a soft co-poly.

Help an old guy coming back from shoulder surgery find a stick! current=P Approach ti

Like the earlier posters, highly suggest the Pro Kennex racquets. I stray away but eventually have to go back to my PKs' I'm an old school player with over 30 years of wear and tear. You might way to check out YouTube on using the rubber cords to develop your shoulder and arm fitness. I...

How would a prime Henman do in this era?

Think Henman would have to develop a stronger backcourt game and use the serve and volley as variety instead of the main course to survive today. Stepanek (like Haas) has adapted his game nicely by using court knowledge and touch to counter the pace of today's big hitters. Interestingly, I see...

How is Ferrer still in the top 5?

Davy's change in racquet from Prince to Dunlop didn't help him either. You could see the loss in confidence and its slowly recovered when he went back to his original racquet but he's slightly off on the timing. Too bad, in his prime Davy was such a great striker of the ball... Ferrer does a...

    The Rosewall Skidder?

...watching the US Open final... Murray's got a pretty good backhand skidder... he hit a couple of nice ones (inside out) in the 4 and 5th sets to elict a Djokovic error or two...Djokovic uses more arm instead of leaning on the shot so his backhand slice tends to sits up...great match! :)

    "Playing other sports..."

Been around the game off and on for 30 years or so and worked with a lot of high potential juniors who had played "other" sports. Interesting, the kid who probably made the most of his potential came from a martial arts background (judo). He actually started playing the game relatively late...

    The Rosewall Skidder?

My old school hitting partner hits a great slice "skidder" which most of us at our club are trying to emulate. He has the classic continental on the backhand, strikes it flat and pushes the head thru the ball and cuts the ball with backspin (varies from top-down or with slight side spin too)...

    Laver 1969 on HD

Thanks for sharing this...great stuff...saw both up close during the mid 70's (WCT and TTennis) looks like both players focused on out positioning each other in this match...the guys today hit so darn hard so not much room for variety/artistry (except for Tomic perhaps)...

    Edberg accidently killed another player?

Recall watching this back in the early 80's (sorry don't know if it's on YouTube etc). Tragedy nonetheless for the linesman and am sure it impacted Edberg at the time. Interestingly, wonder if the USTA implemented safety measures I.e. Protective gear like baseball umps? I've had enough near...

Just how quick was Vitas Gerulaitis?

Saw Vitas playing team tennis back in the mid-late 70's. Blessed with exceptional speed in the 15-20 yard sprints. Like an earlier posted noted, Vitas had to be quick, his strokes off the ground were fairly defensive, neutral at best. Great athlete, one of the best of that era and very nice...

    wild cards and jack sock

Saw Sock at the recent challenger in Hawaii. Talented big hitter but needs a bit of work to reach his potential. He lost to eventual champion Go Soeda primarily due to lack of fitness (very hot day) and a backhand which can go off kilter for a stretch. Nice young man though and look forward to...

Best 1HBH in the game in 2012?

Agree...Winka showed me something special on his backhand wing in his Davis Cup loss to Fish... his dtl tsbh, especially off the ad return is about as good as it gets...beautiful preparation/balance, clean strike and racquet head acceleration thru the ball...outstanding :)

Can a guy exclusively using a slice backhand...

Many examples of top level players such as Rosewall, Gerulaitis, Graf and to a degree the great Jimmy Connors using the sliced backhand with success. Am an oldschooler trained to hit flat and slice on the backhand side. Was fairly successful in the juniors and open then tried to reorient my...

When do people stop playing tennis?

I've drifted in and out of tennis for most of my life. First, during my junior days after my folks refused to support my tennis playing (came from a baseball/football family). Again, during my college years right after making two consecutive men's finals (auto accident-partially paralyzed)...
