When Different Partners Make The Same Mistake

I think you have to tell your partner you're going to poach and DO IT. I play with and against an aggressive net player and she usually puts away anything that she poaches but as we've climbed the ladder, we have found less are put a ways and lots more come back. She poaches most of the time so...

    Who's on first?

If both are waiting and both Know who was waiting first..common courtesy is the first one should get it. but...if neither group knew anyone was waiting.....who ever gets to the courts first is whose court it is.....but if one knew the other was waiting and one didn't know the other was waiting...

Things to say to doubles partner when they make 7 straight errors

gosh I've never had anyone keep count on my errors but that wasn't why I'm posting.... it is a "team" If I feel I've lost more than my fair share of points I will ask to step back or to NEVER try "that shot" again. But I would expect my partner to offer some sort of solution as well. You might...

Service receiver and receiver partner calling lines?

when I play I tell my partner which balls i will call for service lines and they are the back line and the wide serve (if it is clearly out) I feel the center line is a hard call, for me as the partner, to make because I can not see directly beside. Like they can't see directly in front. and I...

    Self rated 3.0 is NOT a 3.0

being new to USTA myself, I asked my pro what I should try to go in as. I am 60, play league tennis, never college or younger tennis but have been playing over 30 years, play 5-6 times per week. Self rated showed as a 3.5. my husband who has the same in all aspects except he only plays 2 times...

    DQ?

Where does it say it’s a strike?
  9. samiam158

    How not DQ'ed?

I think when you self rate the questions that are asked give you the USTA rating. For example: just did hubbys rating. He’s def ( compared to those that play Usta) a 4.0 but when I put the answers into. The system they said 2.5 so we had to bump it up to what we thought was right. She may not...

What to do when captain puts me with weak partners?

Our local league plays out a 3 set for The women’s. (Cause we’re awesome! And a little bit crazy!) The seniors women and men and the mixed league all play 10 point tie breakers for the 3rd set.

Age is going to show. But I said that to the first guy who asked me to “ go with him”. Hahahha

    DQ?

If I read correctly she self rated at a 3.5 but is playing up on a 4.0. Can you get disqualified when your playing at the level you “really” are? I mean if she self rated and it gave her a 3.5 and she’s not playing that level, technically she hasn’t done anything wrong? Don’t know what happens...

No ad scoring system is very flawed

Spoken like a true pro. I use to get so sick of hearing “ make them hit it one more time”. The games won are the one where YOU made less errors. But guess what? It’s twue, it’s twue!

No ad scoring system is very flawed

I hate no ads. But I really hate the 3rd set 10 point tie break. Now that is a good one! Basically, if winning means anything, every point counts. Staying focuse for 10 little points can seem almost impossible. Playing no ads gives you a shorter version. FOCUS is the key. Really it is.

When your opponent makes an out call before the ball has landed

This has come up in a different way too. In doubles. Don’t say “out” to warn your partner before the ball bounces. Say “ watch”, “let it bounced”. Calling “OUT” before the ball has touched the ground means it out. Question the call if you want. Especially if it was close. And if you/partner...

When your opponent yells "C'mon" or "let's go"....

Really?no tribal yells? No fist pumps? No chest Butts? Hummm I see it all the time. And that’s just the ladies league!
  18. samiam158

On average, how long does it take you to become annoyed with your opponent?

Haha! When our ladies team moved up a notch this season our coach says “ those women will find something wrong on every match no matter how trivial” luckily she’s been wrong!

    Really enjoyable morning!

I've been playing tennis for a little over 30 years now. I'm not the best and I'm not the worse. I've had injuries and I've taken breaks from the sport. I am competitive and I still play almost every day! I play on 2 local leagues (mixed and ladies) and I captain our 3.5 USTA league. I take...

Ever have a player refuse to take the court?

Try to be diplomatic and not call anyone person out with an email and inevitably the person you’re talking about will find someone else to say “yeah _______ always acts like that.” Oops haven’t figured out how this all works yet

Ever have a player refuse to take the court?

But after a few years, the team was on auto pilot and everyone knew what to do. The people who have basic problems with being responsible and considerate aren't going to change because I write an email (that they probably won't read anyway). I don't need an email to back me up -- this isn't a...

Describe the oddest, weirdest, legit weirdo you've ever played....

I’ve played against a girl who would growl and bark like a rabid dog, I mean a real ferocious one, to intimidate her opponent. And then there’s the one who smoke excigs while playing.
