Apartment owners in AO player hotel considering last minute Supreme Court injunction for possible health risks

“It’s incredibly arrogant to ambush us this way as if it’s a done deal. There are substantive public health and legal issues that have not even been examined,” apartment owner Mark Nicholson told The Age and the SMH.

Another resident, Digby Lewis added: “At 84, I’m in the vulnerable group and it’s shocking the way they tried to ram this through without any attempt to consult with us. I’m more than happy to toss in $10,000 or $20,000 to help the legal fight; it’s bloody shocking.”

One of the so-called quarantine hotels at the USO was half-filled with people uninvolved in the tournament.

Given that the virus gets places by plane, you can understand why people don't want them.

Yeah, I may think the general hair-on-fire reaction to this virus is a bit goofy, but the tenant of the apartment has a point.

Set up a GoFundMe and I’m in for $5.

You can’t jam things down the throats of local residents even if they live in penthouse apartments on top floors of a Westin with, I’m guessing, separate access to their units apart from the general hotel elevators. AO should start looking for other accommodations. Maybe consider setting up a large tent and cots on-site at Melbourne Park. Army style.

My house insurer just told me that they don't cover viruses when they sent the renewal notice.

It hadn't occurred to me that they did, but if you live in the same building as a de facto quarantine hotel then maybe you would think about these things.

And that's quiet possible given the current scenario..

If I was 84 there’s no way I’d want a bunch of high risk carriers effectively quarantined in my home

If that bloke gets it, it’s essentially a death sentence

I don't think that most from the younger population understand how the older populations view that virus and everything related to it (vaccination, measures, the obligations of the citizens etc.).

It is essentially two different societies as far as views on that problem are concerned.

If the AO didn't even consult the owners they should absolutely sue for stoppage or compensation at least. What were the bigwigs thinking?

One more thing:

If that bloke gets it, it’s essentially a death sentence

The fall-back position of COVID truthers has been that it's not incumbent on the rest of us to make concessions for the elderly/vulnerable population. That is already selfish and irresponsible enough, but now they're not even pretending to care whether 84-year-olds possibly drop dead.

The think-of-the-economy canard was always a ruse. They're simply p!ssed that the gov'mint is telling them whether or not they can do whatever the hell they want. Hence their refusal to even acknowledge the danger of the virus, as opposed to what should be done to contain it which is a more reasonable/debatable question.

Yeh and some of them are just plain crazy:

Usual typical disgraceful behaviour from Tennis Australia.

The Hotel offered disgruntled residential owners $150,000 AUD at the last minute to agree to the plan. The Hotel was obviously receiving truckloads of money from Tennis Australia to host the Quarantined PROFESSIONAL Tennis players (who really should be paying their own way.)

Funny how TA has no problem forking out Millions of dollars to these international visitors and yet turns its nose up to the thousands of local players and volunteers supporting the Grass Roots levels of the sport in Australia. Only a matter of time before the sport collapses here.

Thank Goodness many of the other Sporting Associations here ... Soccer, Basketball, Cricket, Aussie Rules, Rugby, Netball fully appreciate the importance of their Grass Roots levels and give them a lot of financial support.

Any parent here in Australia who encourages their kids to play tennis for anything more than "fun" has rocks in their head unless they have very very deep pockets.
