Bend knees

Alot of my forehand+backhand strokes are:
Bend knees, then uncoil them as the stroke progresses

I hit deep out balls alot of times.. My coach tells me to remain low at all times instead of uncoiling to keep the ball not as deep. Is this true?

What would be the point of bending your knees if you just bent them and stayed there? (aside from trying to get a better contact height on a low ball)

You're may be unbending (popping up) too soon in the stroke. Which erases the benefits of bending your knees in the first place.

I say this because this is what I do. If I pop up too soon, the ball is more likely to fly long.

Some people think that you need to sort of "pop up" when you make contact with the ball to get added power.

I do not.

When you bend your knees and shift your weight through the shot, notice that as your knees sort of naturally "ratchet over" you do not stay perfectly level. A ground stroke is a co-ordinated mess of balance, motion and timing. It is no time to add an exta "popping up" motion.

At any rate, you want the majority of your mass moving foreward in the direction you are hitting the ball. Your follow through, low to high, will give you the topspin necessary to keep the ball in play.

Bagumbawalla, how would you get the majority of your weight moving foreward if you were hitting with open stance?
