Cheapest yet most effective phone for texting

Alright guys..

My parents have taken away my phone, and they say they're going to give it back "soon" but I have a feeling I'll never see it again. I'm getting a job really soon and I have some money saved up, so I was planning to buy my own phone with my money

I don't have much money obviously, so I want to make the most out of it. I descided I'm getting a phone strictly for texting and nothing else so I can save some money. Is there a phone out there for around 80-100 bucks that is good for texting? Also, are there plans out there that allow for a plan that I want? Have you guys heard of a "texting only" plan before, does it even exist?

Oh, and is credit card the only way you can pay for a monthly plan? I had pay as you go before, so I don't know how this works. Do you think if I talked to the company they would find something that would work for me because I dont have a credit card...?

All discussion on phones+texting plans are welcome

Thx

You can pay by Paypal (so bank account, checking account, savings account)

Oh and I lied its $20 per month .....

But if you do it your phone stays active for 3 months... I got it mixed up. Still cheap.

yeah 20 bucks a month is what I wanted for a plan. I get 25 bucks allowance every month, and I have 110 bucks saved up right now for the phone. I applied to 8 jobs yesterday so I hopefully I'll get an interview soon and start working.

Plus I can tell my parents to give me March's allowance early if I want, they wont know Im getting a phone.

This really looks like its going to work out though, im excited! I havent had a life for a month now because I cant talk to anyone... Thats going to change NOW. This weekend im getting a phone

okay does anyone know anything about this "sidekick plan" from Tmobile? It sounds really, really good for me. Almost too good to be true though. Unlimited texting for a dollar a day, and then 15 cents a minute for calling. But I dont want calling anyway.

Take a look:http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/prepaid-plans.aspx

Go to the bottom of the page and read that tiny bit on the sidekick. The phone is 100$, but if its a dollar a day then that's awesome lol

you only get 25 bux a month? im sorry,i feel bad for you. I get 40 a week. dang. im 14. how old are you?

im 15 lol. I wish I got 40 a week. I'm getting a job soon though, so I should be fine money wise. I think I'm going to have to get a pay as you phone. That's the easiest way to get a phone right now and I dont need paypal/credit card. I just need to buy a card with minutes on it and redeem it online. Its the easiest way to go right now

Verizon LG Env2

Thanks bro, i'll check it out

I told my parents that I'm buying a new phone (they hate me btw) and they told me they're not driving me to the mall to get one. I'm about to walk 10 miles to the mall from home and then 10 miles back to get a phone.

Ugh, wish me luck...

Why did they take the phone away last time? Do you have reason to believe they'll do it again?

Your parents sound irrational - I wouldn't recommend pising them off.

If you did no chores and no work and got that much a month, then yes. I'm not sure how much USD that is but I believe it is close to the same.

J-man wrote that Ballin seems “to always be in a pickle”. Right on. Why is that, I wonder?
Ballin appears to exaggerate and sensationalise his experiences (or is confused). How could anyone believe that Ballin is doing drugs when he is so athletic, clearly fit (see his vid postings), and articulate?
Weeks ago, Ballin wrote that his father is an intelligent professional. Has he tried taking to his parents?
Ballin’s writings on this site show him to be obsessed with himself and his abilities, looks, what others (especially girls) think of him. Accept yo'r self man!
-- Ballin never tells us if he is courteous towards his parents. It does NOT make sense that he would be kind to them and they rude to him. Why would they be?

Ballin: Life is as complicated as you want to make it.... so simplify, simplify, simplify! Here is how:
1. Accept who you are.
2. Be kind to family members and friends.
3. Keep your eyes on the ball –not just the tennis ball! I mean, stay focused and work hard on your education. Good education will take you far, very far, in life. Not some cell phone or girl.
4. After that, relax. Don’t worry. Be happy.

Cheers to all from NY

Lol funny how fast the topic changed.

I stopped being courteous to my parents a while ago. i don't talk to them, they dont talk to me, they don't do anything for me, i dont do anything for them. My parents think I'm doing drugs because I got called down during a drug search and was accused of dealing/doing shrooms. The cops got involved and my parents FLIPPED out. They just dont believe me. My dad is a professor at the Colorado School of Mines, and if you really want me too I can link you to his website. But my dad is "book smart" and doesn't know anything about highschool. But either way, your right about what you said. I have become obsessed with stupid things and I'm not denying that. I'm stunned myself how fast I've changed. I cant even believe it. But yeah once I get a job I'll never need my parents for anything ever again. I can't wait till i start making money on my own, im excited. The second I turn 18 im moving out ASAP and moving to like Florida or something.

Oh and I do focus on my education and my GPA isn't too bad, but yeah I get carried away in stupid stuff.

Sorry guys for the long email. BallinBob’s case fascinates me because I went through sort of similar experience– in recent years.

Hey, BallinBob, you better be careful with what you say on public forums like this.
Your post tells me that you have not really tried to be civil with your parents. Strange. Why not? You are civil and respectful here, on the web. Are you two-faced guy or somethin? How do you expect to get a date when you are rude to your own parents and cannot get along with them?

Being “book smart” does not mean bad parents. Talk to them, man. Find a way, any way, to talk to them. You are a great communicator. Why not with dad (and mom –I assume)?.

When you admit to "have become obsessed with stupid things" -- you should stop, think, and avoid stupid things. Some of them can be dangerous. You admit to stupid things but don’t say you try to change such “obsession”.
- Making money at 15 means a few hundred dollars (or less) a month. That is peanuts!!! Small peanuts. No way can you live on such a small amount of money. Life is VERY expensive.
- You are angry and sound irrational. Chill out and be cool. Being angry is normal for many high school students.
- Not clear what is so tough in your life. What does it mean that your dad does not know about highschool? I'm sure he knows that kids your age are interested in girls. Common knowledge. They may not like the idea ... but, again, MOST parents don’t want the consequences of intimate relations. Such relations could result in huge problems. Normal parents are terrified of the consequences of dating.
- Normal parents would FLIP out if their child is suspected of illegal stuff like drugs.
- All these signs tell me that your parents are quite NORMAL, and caring. Some parents don’t care. That would be bad.
I’m so glad that my own mom was caring, like your own parents. She steered me away from the edge of disaster. Don’t go there, buddy!

- Being angry without trying to TALK to parents is not cool – angry for the sake of being angry (or for some girl or cell phone) is weird, and not normal.
- Here is an idea: if you don’t want to talk parents, try writing them a detailed email. Tell them what is on your mind. They will understand.

Be careful with what you post on-line, AND, calm down, man, and good luck!

Hello all,

I'm gonna bring this back to the cell phone conversation. I was seriously gonna post pretty much the same exact thing within the next day or two. I go through texts ridiculously quick and hardly talk, not really cuz I prefer it, but all my friends are texting fiends.

I have been browsing all of the major carriers sites for plans and whatnot and not only couldn't I find one to fit my needs, they all seemed so d@mn expensive. But then I read on this post the suggestion for the Virgin Mobile $20 unlimited texting, and it seems like an awesome plan. So I'm gonna check it out within the next few days and might get one soon. Thanks alot for the great suggestion!

thanks betterten. But why do I have to be careful about what I post? Im not posting lies here otherwise I wouldnt start threads/ask for advice about this stuff. I was really stupid yesterday and sneaked out to watch the basketball game and my parents called the cops on me. I guess I deserved it though. But I descided I'm going to try and just start over with them and maybe everything will turn out good. I'm going to make a serious effort to fix things this time.

thanks!

I'm sorry if my question has been answered already, I haven't been through this whole thread. My question is, why did your relations with your parents sour? I'm sure you used to be on good terms with them, so what happened?

Hey BallinBob... you had a rough week, eh. Sorry man. Realizing your mistake is a sign of maturity and level-headedness. I suggest that you work on regaining your parents' trust --sounds like you are heading in that direction. Well done, man. Good luck buddy.
You always come across as thoughtful. Also, sounds like you have caring parents that really support you --especially your tennis hobby. They paid for a pro coach for you, right? That is a lot of money.

Thanks Mada for such a great quote which worth repeating here: "When I was 14 I thought my father was the most ignorant man in the world. When I was 21 I was astonished at how much he had learned in 7 years." -Mark Twain

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but what exactly does this Mark Twain quote mean?
