Did Federer play a better Wimbledon 08 than 09

I am so glad that Federer got to 15 yesterday. He truly deserves it more than anybody else. Watching yesterday's match, i felt he played the Wimbledon 08 much better , even though he was on the losing side ultimately. He seemed to have just won by hanging in there yesterday, whereas in 08 he was spectacular several times during the game. There were not many such moments yesterday ( exception- the second and third set tiebreak). Even though his serve was phenomenal in the 5th, he never looked like breaking Roddick, even though he managed to get up to 30 in every other game. Roddick was the one who looked like breaking Fed anytime. What do others feel ?

Up until final level of play was pretty similar both years(he cruised)and in the final it was just a completely different match than last year so tough to compare.

If you look at how he hit the ball, he was much better off the ground in '08, but the way that Roddick kept him second-guessing himself was the reason for that.

His opponents in these two matches were too different for any kind of meaningful comparison. Federer served a hell of a lot better this year, though, I'll give you that.

I agree w/ you that Fed deserved it more than anybody else.

I disagree about "just hanging in there". Fed displayed his very usual game which is a few flaws here and there as always, ie getting broken, but his true strength which separates guys like him and nadal from the rest was on display. He didn't break down and slowly degrade on a marathon. To be honest around 10/10th game tie I started to see Roddick's chance left him. Rod looked clueless about what to do while I could see Fed was still looking for a way or a chance. Actually Roddick was the one who seemed to just hang on and wait for miracle.

He was better in 2008. There he hit a lot of good shots to stay in the match.

Here he was making lot of uncharacteristic errors. Only serve saved him.

Yes, by far. Yesterday he looked mediocre. But funny thing is, he still won, that's how good he truly is. And that's how good nadal was - (because he beat federer at his best...)
