I have been searching the forum but can't find any posts that really discuss these two racquets. From what I here, they are the better of the Donnay line and I have had the chance to play with the X-Dual Core Gold but my tennis shop does not carry the X-Dual Core Platinum. I want to purchase a racquet (The Gold is my favorite so far), but before I make a decision I want to know how the Platinum compares to the Gold. If anyone has played with box or only the Platinum any comments about the racquet would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

IMO if you prefer flatter strokes and the control of a denser string pattern, the platinum delivers. The platinum has more control, decent access to spin, and enough weight to withstand hitting against someone with heavy groundstrokes.

I found the gold too light for my game. I have added the 10g butt weight and side weights to my gold to see if it makes a difference, but haven't tried it yet. Perhaps the one area that I might like the gold more is serving. The lightness allows for more versatility while serving.

Thanks, I had heard the platinum offered more control but I'd rather not give up the nice access to spin from the gold, it looks like I'll probably buy the gold and possibly add weight

ive been playing with the Gold for about 4 months now. I love it. I just ordered the customization kit though because I think it may be a bit light for me now. Im 5'11 165 and not an ounce of fat. I hit with alot of spin, somtimes too much spin. I may get the platium someday but ill have to see how the weight kit changes the gold.

I don't know if you are referring to 94 or 99.

I played Gold 99 and Platinum 99 before. Both racquets are quite different in spec and fit to different kinds of games. The platinum 99 is a little more head light and stiffer than the gold 99. It fits to all-court players who hit flat or half-flat half-spin. Even though it has 18x20 string pattern, but it's open enough to generate good spin with shaped string. Donnay's 18x20 is a little more open than other 18x20 racquets. The string that works best is Solinco Barb Wire at 53 lbs.

The gold 99 is relatively flexier than platinum 99 and light enough to customize balance. It fits to baseliners who hit the ball with a lot of spin. It hits the ball very soft and clean. In stock form, I found it too light. Adding +10g butt cap and +3g slide weight at 12 helps on my groundstroke depth. The hybrid of poly and multi at 55 lbs works very well on this racquet.
