Fun With Foam Balls!

I went to my 3 and a pro clinic today, and he pulled out the foam balls for us.

First, we used them to work on volleys, with the idea being we were to take our time and use correct footwork and technique. Then we moved to the service line and hit groundstrokes with the foam balls.

I have to admit that at first I wasn't sure how this would be helpful to adults. I'm a believer now. After we put the foam balls away, we were all hitting better with regular balls. Better groundstrokes and better volleys. I mean, you need a full swing and good technique or those balls don't go anywhere.

Here's my question. I'm thinking of getting some foam balls. They would be much easier to use with my 10-year-old son (less ball chasing). I imagine they would be good to use with some of my teammates for volley drills.

Are there any other drills for which foam balls are useful?

The foam balls are great for seeing the spin (due to the yellow/red coloring). You can work on the low balls at your feet.

Foam balls are also great for practicing volleys at a wall. You an get really close, while still have enough time to react.

I've been using the big two tone foam balls for warming up with my 9 yr old. Aside from her seeing the spin on the balls, we found that we can engage in sone long easy stroke rallies...before transitioning to the regular balls. However, I don't know what use(s) the smaller foam balls are good for?
