In light of Navratilova's comments, I started thinking about what I would do if I were in charge of regulating tennis equipment rules.

For one, I think I might consider a ban on string waxing. And I might also look into a way to restrict the new Teflon-coated strings too - as they have a big effect on the pro game, even if they don't really matter so much for the club level player. I believe strings seem to be going in the spaghetti-string direction, and I don't think it helps the game.

As for racquets, think I would leave the rules the way they are, as variation in racquets helps bring diversity of playing styles.

I think that too much power doesn't seem to be a threat. But too much spin might be (which is why spaghetti strings were banned).

What would you do if you were in charge? Please vote and comment.

I think the pros should use wood racquets and the game should be played on grass or clay.

I don't see how anything else is an improvement.

It is played on grass or clay. I play on clay usually, as our tennis club only has grass or clay courts (one hard court but only for the ball machine).

Wood racquets with classic 66 si head size, only gut allowed, only plain leather grip with no cushioning.

I grew up on graphite racquets and the boom of widebody racquets: wilson profile, thunderstick, becker super, prostaff...you know late 80's-early 90's. The pros were kind of using the same stuff we all were. Fast forward to now and this is how the kids will remember and play tennis. They'll grow up on power hitting and the racquets. When I was young serve and volley was the "in" thing because of edberg. When I take tennis classes now I see the sign of the times and beginners thrashing like crazy. I don't have a problem with it as they duplicate what they see. My peers won't have an all court game, but I will. :)

I think having a maximum headsize of 102sqin and having a maximum racquet flex rating of 65.
