With today's announcement of Nadal backing out from Indian Wells and Miami, I see Fed's chances of winning FO 2013 quadruple. This is inspite of the fact that Nadal is saving himself just for FO.

Novak will have the pressure of expectations and a career slam. It is too much to expect Murray to win a big clay title.

Nadal fans, here is a poll for you.

Fed is not winning RG. Djesus is the favorite there, and nobody is going to beat him.

Can't you at least wait until clay season starts to make those predictions? Last year at RG, Djokovic didn't look unstoppable at all and it took chokes from Seppi and Tsonga for him to even make it to the SF's.

Why should I wait? Nobody is playing up to par except for Djesus, and I doubt that is going to change any time soon.

And last year was last year. Djesus is playing better this year than he was this time last year. Nobody is beating him until Wimby at the earliest, and even that is not a guarantee.

Ferrer is 3-1 against Djesus on Clay.

He may be useless against the top 4 elsewhere but he has a chance here.

Lol!! Ferrer is NOT beating Djesus ever again on any surface. He just got mauled at the AO and lost badly. What on earth makes you think he even stands a chance to beat Djesus?

Djokovic played a good match and Federer played a bad one, having not been in particularly good form and having a tough 5 setter against Del Potro in the previous round. What's so tough to understand about that? What happened in the Final? Oh yeah...

Peak Djokovic defeated Ferrer in tough match on Madrid clay, before that lost in DC 2009 and MC 2007.

He is right, Ferrer has some chances against Djokovic on clay

There will be those that try to diminish any accomplishment of those they don't like. In the end it doesn't matter. A title is a title is a title.

At this point with Nadal on 7 RG titles and being 27 at the time RG ends, he isn't really in his prime anymore. He hasn't had any sustained dominance to keep up, but still, 7 RG titles? He's probabaly done the vast majority of his winning there.

What I'm getting at is, if Federer won RG again it would be pretty special at 31. If he beat Nadal even better although Nadal isn't prime - but neither is Federer so I guess some people would give him credit and some not. If Djokovic beats Nadal at RG it doesn't really mean that much. I'm a fan of Novak, but unless Nadal wins 1 or 2 more RG titles or Nadal plays outstanding this year in the clay season, Djokovic won't have beaten a prime Nadal.

Whoever wins RG will have earned the title no doubt, but even beating Nadal won't automatically equal some extra special status. Winning RG might be going back to the same as winning any other slam. For years now it's been the toughest thing in tennis if you're not Rafa Nadal.

This is a really cool post, and I agree. Same as beating Federer at Wimbledon the past few years.

Yeah, we have never seen Ferrer vs any of the top 4 but Nadal at the FO. Except Murray, who he beat.

Ferrer vs Djokovic or Ferrer vs Federer at Roland Garros could be very interesting matches.

Federer would win for sure, check their H2H. It's as pathetic a matchup as there is on tour today.

Thanks. Yeah Federer has done the majority of his winning everywhere now. With him and Nadal, the odds of a top player beating them at any event are getting greater all the time. They still might play great and make someone earn it but the regularity of their great play will decrease.

Respect for Fed will increase if you're a reasonable person, but I had to vote for the other option considering that's all that's ever talked about, even today.

I really can't see him winning the FO this season... but I also really didn't have belief he'd return to #1 ever and he absolutely shocked me.

I really think his top priority this season is defending Wimbledon, but if he has some decent results in the clay swing and Rafa isn't looking "rafalicious" then maybe he really puts everything into it.

How did Fed chances quadruple? With Nadal losing two M1000s worth of points, Fed now risks facing Nadal at QFs or worse. Who knows?

Depending on what happens on the clay M1000s, there's the (somewhat feasible) chance Nadal could be ranked #9 by Roland Garros, and could draw Federer in R16.

Respect for Fed will increase because he was able to stay healthy for long enough to take advantage of Nadal being injured, giving him a chance to yet win another French Open.

Agreed, just like Nadal deserves respect for taking advantage of Federer's terrible level of play in 2008 giving Nadal a chance to win a lot more that he was capable of normally.

Yes this might just be Fed's chance to beat Nads on clay at RG. No asterisks.
