Lead Tape

Hi, i just bought some unique lead tape. What is a good amount of lead tape to start with? I will be putting it at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions. Also, I bought some tourna grip, what is the correct side to use of the tournagrip?
Thankyou.

The last few rolls of Tourna grip I have used (inlcuding a 30 roll) had a thin see through protective tape. That is the side used on the outside (the side you grip). If it has no protecive tape....hmm...I don't recall what side. Use the side that feels less smooth I guess.

Go to the learning center on TW home page. Go to customizing racquets and read the info regarding lead tape...very helpful.:)

Good luck!

lead tape matters on your preference (head heavy, head light). Also, you can use any side of the tourna grip, they are the exact same.

Re: tape

Same as with most measurement exercises. Start with a little; it's easier to add than subtract.

the part of tourna with the wrap on it is the side that faces your hand. and know that just adding to the head will mess up your balance and make the racquet more head heavy. so if you want to add a lot to the head then you might have to counter it with some in the handle.

You need to figure out what results you're looking for before you start adding lead. Adding lead just for the sake of adding lead is a waste of time, in my opinion.

Do you want to move the sweet spot? Increase the stability in a certain direction? Increas the mass without changing the balance? Increase the swingweight?

What are you trying to do? My opinion is that for the majority of tennis players, adding lead never leads to any real positive results. It can become as distracting as this racket business. Pick a solid racket you're comfortable with and concentrate on your game, that's my advice.

Anyway, if you still plan to experiment, check out this great website-->

A little bit of lead goes a long way.

Just one more question, how many inches is a good amount to start with. I was thinking either 3 or 4. Can anyone share what you do and what is probably better?

is it 1/2 or 1/4 inch? i put 4 inch strips at 3 and 9, then doubled them up. i also added some to the handle to counter the lead in the head. i would start with that and then go up (or down) from there.
