Only Safin can match Federer's brilliance.

What are you, like 10 years old? You're missing the point, I'm pointing out that there are very few things Federer will not experience at the top of the tennis world, I'm not suggesting he would swap his grand slams. Don't get all defensive - FEDERER IS THE BEST; there, feel better now?

Good luck to Safin, he did well to win the Davis Cup again.
You are looking for any however imaginary Safin's "achievement" over Federer, then mount personal attack on anyone who calls your nonsense, and I am the one getting defensive? You, Safin's would be girlfriends, are out of control...

During the Davis cup final I heard one of the tv pundits say how similar Safin's career is to Agassi's - in the first half of his career he has struggled to fully commit to his tennis and has had plenty of other distractions, yet occasionaly shows his awesome talent. He has also shown his dislike of Wimbledon in the past although imo I think he could do very well on the surface - again its a commitment thing. His personality also seems to me to show similarities to that of Agassi's - this was clear to see in his ATP blog, where he would end most pieces with things like 'love your friends' and I could easily see him involved with charity in someway once his partyboy ways have calmed, again much like Agassi did.

Heres hoping that the latter part of Safin's career can turn a corner like Agassi's did and he fullfills his potential. He has recently said that he see's 2010 as the end of his playing career but lets just hope that he changes his mind otherwise he will have to get turning that corner pretty fast.

Dude you're assuming I give a **** about about 'safins achievements over Federer', which I don't, I really like both these players and there is room for both of them.
The thing is, a lot of people here are trying to flame Safin in this thread, and actually, apart from fed and hewitt he has the most impresive resume of active players on the tour.
Then it occurred to me that Federer will probably never win the Davis Cup. Don't take that wrong, federer is my favourite player to watch, it was just an observation. You take everything as if this is a schoolboy scrap. There is no need for your ridiculous one-upmanship, I just like tennis and was happy to see Safin win. whats up with that?... don't get your knickers in a twist.

The only reason he said that he would finish playing tennis in 2010 is because he got fed up with all the questions about his commitment and when he is going to retire because his heart is not into tennis. All year long when he dropped to outside of 100, he was asked those question and then sometimes during he just decided to end it and came up with 2010. Of course later in one of Russian interviews he claims that of course he doesn't know when he is going to retire, he said maybe in couple years and maybe in 6-7 years. He said it would depend on many factors.

Well Safin is very different than Agassi. Can you imagine Safin married?!!??No way.Not b4 40 anyway..Safin lacks stimulae. He lacks challenge. You may say that there is challenge,Federer etc.,but the thing is he knows he can beat anyone. There's not much there left to prove, especially since he is not so much absorbed in tennis like others..He needs change cause he needs new inspiration to keep himself interested, which is why he changes coaches so often. If someone can inspire him, invent some new challenge for him, then we will see more gtreat things from this sensational athlete..

I sure hope it happens
