Pros and cons of building up the buttcap.

I usually haven't done it in the past but thought I should give it a go so I wrapped the overgrip one extra lap at the buttcap. After all many pros do it, Gasquet to the extreme of course but also Djokovic since he use two overgrips. First impressions is that it seems to help my game. The racquet feels more stable in the palm and it helps with backhand slice, volleys and one handed backhand. So far I haven't discovered any disadvantages but there has to be some. I thought maybe I can't use the wrist as much on the forehand but not sure about that. What do you think?

If it works for you, do it.
It's promising so far. One explanation it feels right may be that I have switched back and forth between grip size 3 and 4 and the buttcap on the size 4 is larger right? So basically I just turn the size 3 buttcap into a size 4 that I am used to anyway.

A tad bit extra is nice, but once you get past that very small amount, it quickly goes to where it screws the whole thing up.

Without that extra bit, I tend to slip a little more along the handle and can twist on shots a bit more.

If you build it up even a hair too much, you suddenly start choking up on the racket and it all goes to crap.

The only downside is that once you tried it, you cannot go back!
So true! I didn't stop at the buttcap and did the whole handle! I ended up having issues with sweating. Same handle for 2 years in Florida no issue but this year it couldnt stay dry....so i added some tournagrip. The handle in the vid is huge but its even larger now... and I can't go back! Need to update the sig.

I like building up the butt of the handle. I started with a standard leather grip double wrapped and secured by coaching tape with an overgrip over it. As another poster pointed out, I felt like I tended to choke up too much. I then cut the leather grip in half length wise and it was then 1/2 inch wide, double wrapped it at the end of the grip. It makes a nice ridge then for a lower on the grip hand position if you put your ring finger up against the ridge and the pinky finger on the 1/2 inch build up area.

Shroud, with your outside to box grip thinking, you would have been a very good candidate for timtennis' power v grip maybe. I actually still use it with my racquet grips.

Maybe. I never tried it. There was a poster called the Dark Knight and that guy was a tool and promoted it so I was less likely to try it.

I might be wrong but not sure I could play with an asymmetrical grip. Bet I could
