Starting off - pulling both centre mains

I know in all the videos it says to pull both center mains, then clamp on side A at the throat, then untension, then tension side B and clamp at the top. I have seen this is YuLitle's video's and stuff.

Why can't you just pull both center mains and clamp both at the head straight away. With a constant pull machine especially, these strings both have 50lbs of tension on them, so it works in the physics side of it...

Nope, they'd have less than reference tension - try it your self to see. Insert both centre mains and pull tension on both. Clamp the long side main at the head and the ss at the throat but leave an inch or two between the frame and the clamp. Release the tension head and now tension ss main on it's own, as it starts to pull release the base on the clamp holding the string and you'll see it slide toward the tension head a few cm's. Just shows that the centre mains don't reach reference tension when you pull both, but it is easier to both set the clamps and ensure your centre mains are properly tensioned.

Not sure if I understand correctly, but if you pull tension on 2 strings at a time, the tension gets distributed between the two strings, so each string gets half the reference tension.

I don't know what type of physics you preach, but pulling 50lbs. along two strings will result in 25lbs. PER string.

Yikes! I guess I will need to remember your thoughts on this when I read your string reviews.

Haha I would only do it if I found out it was okay. I was just thinking because it's a constant pull both sides would have 50lbs tension along them. Cheers for clearing it up, glad I didn't do it haha.

It is sort of like carrying a cooler. If you have two people holding it each only carry half the weight. The main purpose for doing this is to set tension and proper string dirrection in the clamp so you don't damage the string.

Yeah, I wasn't really thinking when I posted. My father's a physics teacher and he put it to me, usually he is 100% right about these sorts of things so he convinced me a little. Thankfully we have TT :)
