string thickness affect spin?

i have a ti radical mp with 18X20 which doesnt produce great spin. So I tried putting a 15L gauge string on my mains and 17 gauge on my crosses. And it gave me way more spin than using the 17 gauge straight up. Do you think it really was the difference between the gauges that let me get more spin?

Straight off About.com:

"Thinner strings are generally believed to bite into the ball better and produce more spin."

I guess kinda like how a less dense pattern produces more spin.

I have always had better results with thicker gauge as related to more spin and bite on the ball.

Tennis Magazine touts that thicker strings produce more spin.

It is my belief that that is true on hard shots, but on softer shots, a thinner string seems to bite the ball more.

Patern has a lot to do with it too. On an open pattern, a thinner string might make a bigger difference. On a tighter patterrn I think you want as much string surface as possible.

Try a 17 or 18 in your mains and a 16 or 15L in your crosses, and you'll have the best of both worlds !!!
