Recently, Medvedev changed to using Biphase Technifibre strings. The strings are multi-filament, lively, and pre-stretched providing longer lasting tension.. I've used them for about three years and they deliver the shots I feel at the time the ball hits the strings. Medvedev mostly hits flat baseline shots. I mostly hit flat baseline shot, though I often come to the net and slice penetrating volleys Yet the lively Technifibre also provides an effective drop-shot touch whether at the net or from the baseline. Like Medvedev, I rarely miss-hit, but I don't strike the ball nearly as hard as Medvedev. Therefore, I can get away with using the 18-gauge Phase One strings strung at 55 lbs. The 18 gauge gives a bit more spin off top-spin swings and slice swings. I don't know the gauge or tension of Medvedev's strings, but I'm certain he doesn't use 18 gauge. With his swing speed, an 18-gauge string could snap at any moment. Still, my 18-gauge strings last about three weeks of playing and practicing at least 3 hours a day at five days a week or more often. I figure though that by the end of three weeks of frequent racket-string use, it's time to restring by too much use of the original and noticeably fraying strings losing too much tension. However, the Phase One Technifibre strings are expensive, 24.95 unless they're put on sale for about three dollars less. You'll still have to pay for the stringing cost, unless you have your own electronic stringing machine, which is also very expensive.
