I hate to say it but new released classified info shows it was no accident
The IAF wanted to blame it on Egypt to get Americans in war and they wanted to destroy US communication ship to prevent USA and ussr knowing they were launching massive attack on the Golan against Syria .
They knew the Soviets were eavesdropping on the USA
The US ship had a clear flag

I don’t like you !!! But I have always sided with Israel as it made no sense and just refused to believe it but the evidence has changed my mind .

That idiotic move could have greatly backfired and US would have destroyed their tiny navy
