What kind of Grass is used for a Grass tennis court

We are right now building a new house with a pretty big garden and we are going to make a mini-tennis court on the backyard. We want to put real grass on it (the tennis court) but not the regular grass used on backyards but the same type that is used on real grass courts.

Does anyone here have a clue what that grass type is called or where I can buy the grass seeds??

I see you're in Europe but where exactly? The more northern climates will require bentgrass and/or perennial ryegrass. Southern areas bermuda grass possibly overseeded with rye during winter for color. Just like taking care of a golf green, a proper court will require a big investment in time and money for the proper equipment etc. Artificial turf is probably the way to go.

I´m in southcentral part of Sweden.

I know art. grass is a possibillity but this is more of a "cool" thing to have in the backyard.. It will only be used as a fun thing that me and my friends will play on for fun when we barbeque or stuff like that. It must not be perfectly smooth etc,, just so it not gets worn out fast like normal garden-grass would

good luck with that hank. worked at a golf course for many years and I know that the last club I worked for used an A-4 bentgrass for the greens. it takes a special lawnmower to cut that type of grass too. Don't know how much it costs, but i'm sure it was near $1k. maintenance and rolling was done on a routine basis. Aeration was done at least twice a year. But this is from a golf stand point, so i really don't know what would go into maintaning a tennis court. But i'm sure i'm not too far off.

Edit: i had no idea you were in Sweden, whoops! So I have no idea if what I said will even apply. Good luck anyway.

Sweden. Yikes. That's a short growing season with a lot of low temperature kill etc. Your best bet would be to have a chat with your friendly neighborhood greenkeeper (assuming there is a golf course within 30 miles). He will tell you exactly what grass will do well there etc.

Will do. We actually have 6 golf courses within a 5 mile circle from our location. My town´s name is Jönköping, but often called Golfköping.

After a normal winter they open the summer-greens in mid/end march and play until late october, depending when the first snow falls.
During the winter many play golf if there is no snow,, and then the make temporary greens in the end of the fairways ,, called winter greens.

I would definitely go with a hybrid. Maybe a cross of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing thing about this is, that you can play 5 sets on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff.

Had to throw a little Caddyshack in there.
