Wilson ProStaff classic tennis shoes no good for foot health?

I had an ankle rollover in the PS classic shoes yesterday. My buddy said these shoes are too "old school" and I should wear something more modern for better protection. Are these shoes really that bad for foot health?

They're not bad per se, but not the best you can do for your feet. I used to wear these and after wearing them down substantially I rolled my ankle and sprained it several times, maybe more than once within 5 minutes of the last.

PS classic have poor traction and stability/support. Get new school shoes. If you need extra ankle support get an ankle brace.

ps classic are >20 years old. they are far to old for the modern player. I hate seeing threads like this every week because it means that people actually think they can play competitively in these. almost nothing made 20 years ago still works with respect to playing the modern game. the only exception would be a shirt or the prostaff 6.0...

How did the shoe contribute to the ankle roll? Did you sprain your ankle?

I don't see how say a Nike Vapor Speed would do a better job protecting your ankle.

Indoor soccer shoes don't offer much more support than the ProStaffs and the players don't complain.

Lateral stability. The Pro Staffs have week uppers with no reinforcement. They're horrible for stability. They can't compete with a modern shoe that has a wraparound sole, sturdy uppers, and lacing systems. In soccer you're not predominately moving side-to-side and you're not playing on an incredibly grippy surface.
