Wilson Six One 95 racquet hoop paint chipping easily -- Solutions?

I have 2 Wilson Six One 95 16x18 racquets from 2014. I love this racquet.

So here is my dilemma: I open up the racquet face on low backhand chips at mid court a lot when I am in that position. I get major chipping on the red paint below the black plastic head guard (which is just about free of any marks...) on this type of shot when the racquet hits the ground. I feel as though the curved shape of the frame hoop exposes it outside of the protection of the head guard. I have two other friends who I hit with who also use this racquet and we all complain about this same issue. I believe the head guard's lack of protection is a design flaw, but there's nothing I can do about this.

I am thinking of getting some red lacquer model/auto touch up paint and filling in those chips to protect the structural integrity of the frame. I am also thinking of covering that whole area on both sides of the head guard with clear coat auto paint. What are my other options? Will my solution throw off the weight balance of the frame due to added paint?

Paint is not sticking very well to the graphite matrix which is why it chips off. You can repair with model matte or glossy paints since they have enough variety for color matching. Clean the area with alcohol and lightly rough it up. Then apply the paint. May take 2-3 coats to fill in the chip. Let dry between coats. Clear coat won't help since it is the paint underneath it that is the problem. You will also add about 3-5 grams of mass to the head increasing SW, which is not something to do without consideration. 3¢

Thanks! I will just go for model paint and touch it up once per year.

That’s a good idea. I would get some very fine grit sandpaper (300 or 350) and sand it a little before painting it with the model paint. I’m dealing with roughly the same thing on my ‘18 PD.
