On arguably the best day of tennis, Rafa Nadal takes on the surprise Mathieu. My pick is Rafa in 4.

Mathieu in 3. I hope he takes the cheating scumbag out.

Dude, Nadal did NOT cheat. Did you see his presser? He admitted his right knee has been hurting him since Miami against Roddick. He also admitted that he wouldn't call the trainer unless he was in serious pain.

How is that cheating?

Dude, I was being sarcastic. At least for tonight you have to say that Nadal cheated, ok ? :)

Ohhhh really ?

I thought he said, after is retirement vs Murray in AO, that he wouldnt play in pain anymore ?

Hypocrisy is gold.

SO you think Nadal is a LIAR? What's the problem in taking a MTO if you're feeling pain? Is that against rulebooks? What about Fed taking a bathroom break in the AO?

A lot of you are underestimating Mathieu. His game can trouble Nadal with his excellent backhand and serve. having said that, his forehand breaks down and makes a lot of errors from that side.

I'm going to say Mathieu in 4.

He's 0-9 vs Nadal. That's a solid reason for many to be underestimating him.

Let's be real here for a minute. Nadal's been shaky this tournament and Mathieu's just beaten a tuff opponent in Youzhny and De Bakker today. Before this tournament, he only won something like 4 matches this year. He's on a bit of a roll now and has the game to trouble Nadal. H2H isn't always be all and end all. It's about who plays well on the day.

But he took Rafa in 5 in RG 2006 if i'm not mistaken(the only player to ever do that and clay being the surface Rafa excells on).
It was an extremely long 4 set match in which Mathieu had a boat load of opportunities he never capitalized on

I agree Rafa has been very shaky. He also just said he's pulling out of Davis Cup to rest his right knee after Wimbledon, obviously not a good sign. So maybe you're right and he's there for the taking. I don't think he'll be knocked off till he faces a top 10 guy though, I expect him to keep finding a way to win till then.

I do admit i'm a bit biased towards the Mathieu being French. He's underarchieved IMO and it's a real shame because he was a very good junior.

You could say that about Gasquet, Simon, Monfils, Benneteau, Llodra, Santoro... It's very frustrating being a fan of French players, whom I like very much. I can't really see Mathieu beating Nadal on Monday (Nadal leads their head-to-head 9-0).

I think Nadal will be sharper this next match. I think he'll go through in 4 sets possibly, but I think a straight set win is more likely. He knows that he's going to have to raise his game as he gets into this second week.

After some of the oddness, surprises and upsets that have occurred so far... not sure who to vote for (yet) :)

Rafa ...straight sets....how could it be otherwise with a 0-9 record?

He was 2-0 (now 3-0) against Petzschner and had never dropped a set before today. No longer know what to expect from this wacky tournament :)

To be honest, only Sod and Murray are playing great. This has been a wacky tournament, but in a good way.

I like Mathieu. Whoever wins, wins.

Oh, and Roddick and Mathieu and Berdych. Too bad these matches didn't get televised.

Nadal in 4.

I think Mathieu will have some confidence after watching Nadal struggle and will come out blazing, and push hard for two sets. I think they will split the first two, after which Nadal will win.

All of you missed the secret memo to the top seeds that they must drop sets and look vulnerable so the Wimbledon can compete with the FIFA in interest.

Rafa went the extra mile by faking injury. Credit to him, and Unca Toni who pretended to coach, and to Cedric Mourier for looking so natural, and Rafa for that excellent show of fake anger, and even that well rehearsed finger pointing that ALMOST crossed the line.

Of course, we all know that The Warrior will prevail even if it has to be five sets. That just reduces his training schedule a bit. No sweat.

As far as Roger is concerned, no one really knows if he is also actually putting on the act, or really out of shape and on the verge of retirement as his detractors here wish. His match could thus be interesting.

Oh nooo... name, are you serious?!

Don't worry he's just one of those idiotic trolls looking for attentions by bashing on a pro player. I love how he calls in a trainer to look at his knee and everyone makes a huge deal out of it like it's WW3 on this board and Nadal is a cheater for being well within his rights to call a trainer.... Does anyone here even know that he was for sure faking it? No, so shut the **** up and stop acting like little 13 year old ***gots.

Where is the option "Rafa takes a MTO and wins"?

Although I suppose it isn't really an option since Nadal will not be trailing in sets today.

Nadal knocking the cover off the ball at times, like he used too. Must be feeling it today. Mathieu is cheating.
