Djokovic next takes one of the streaky talented French players Paul-Henri Mathieu. Will the partisan crowd be enough to give Mathieu a prayer in this one or will Djokovic simply be too strong. Their head to head is 1-1 but both matches in 2006.

Mathieu was beating Nadal at the FO in 2006 from all sides of the court. If he plays like that, Djokovic will find it hard pressed to win with his form as of late.

He's also been looking impressive, incorporating alot of strategy and craftiness into his game. It's going to be one long match.

You're right about Mathieu giving Nadal a lot of trouble in 2006 but it all depends how his game matches with Djoko. We'll have to see. To me, Djoko is still the clear favorite in this match: more weapons, more freshness (Mathieu has played VERY long matches in the 1st rounds), more experience with big matches.

Mathieu steps it up when he plays a big name player normally. He has the game to beat Djokovic. He can actually out hit Djokovic from the back court off both sides, and actually has more variety from the back of the court. Djokovic tends to just hit big flat shots, while Mathieu can hit that heavy spinning forehand that really bites into the court.

Mathieu just doesn't have great hands at the net, but this is clay where the net game is not as important. Only advantages Djokovic has is his movement.

NamRanger continues with his fantasies. Here is another one after Odesnik in 4.

Novak in three close sets.

This could be a tough match for Novak,Mathieu is a very good ballstriker, has the crowd on his side and seems to have improved somewhat mentally with Wilander as his support. But in the end Djokovic is a better and much more mentally tougher player so I'll go with Novak in 4 or maybe 3 close sets.I'm looking forward to this match as I enjoy watching both players,it should be a good one.Novak will have to raise his game a level or two though then in Odesnik match but I'm sure he'll raise to the occasion like he usually does at slams.

Novak will not straight set Mathieu unless he plays exceptionally well. Nadal couldn't do it in 2006, what makes you think Novak can?

I think you are the one fantasizing here. Mathieu was in prime position to beat Nadal, up a set and up in the second by a break, with Nadal looking like he was in big trouble. Nadal turned it around with incredible defense.

I think Mathieu can give Nole some trouble. They have similar playing styles but Novak just executes so much better. I pick Djokovic in 4 sets.

Mathieu in 4. His confidence is soaring, and Mats is good for him. At worst, he'll take Novak's stamina away.

Djokovic in 3 sets. Congrats to Mathieu for his great effort in 2006 against Nadal. The wind blew out a lot of the clay which made it play like a hardcourt from what I remember. Similar to what happened on Wednesday this year.

Djokovic should win this one. I voted for him to win in straight sets, though I think it could go to 4.

Wrong. Mathieu has an extra level to his game that Djokovic doesn't. It depends on whether or not PHM elevates his game. If he does, it'll be over in 3 easy ones for PHM.

I wouldn't say 3 easy ones, but he definitely can win if he elevates his game. Bigger ground game and more variety of spins.

Man some of you greatly underestimate Djokovic's clay court ability. I guess Rome and taking Nadal to the limit at Hamburg isn't enough proof? Mathieu is good clay courter but Djokovic has raised his game to another level.

Wow, how people here hate Djokovic. I dislike the guy quite a bit (that's an understatement), but to say Mathieu should beat him easily? Interesting. I don't know if that tells us more about the player or the people here.

Mathieu might take utmost a set away from Djokovic...PHM has the crowd support but I dont think that's going to trouble Djokovic, as he has not been a crowd favorite in most cases !

Anyone explain why they are covering Schnyder's match right now? They're not covering djoko's match, and theres no TC livestream to Philippe Chatrier court.

-edit- NBC is covering Djoko's and Nadals match. I'd rather watch it live on TC. Oh well, life sucks.

argh! the dreaded nbc tape delay. got up bright and early, sat through some horrible women's matches to get to the men . . . and . . . no dice.

damn. did djoker just hold to win the first 6-4 from 0-40 down?? i can't believe tennis channel can't even cut away for the key points on chatrier. i mean, anyone awake knows there's another match going on. it's stupid to pretend otherwise.

Mathieu should stand a bit further from the baseline on return.

People, there's a live stream on channelsurfing dot com , the first and second links for the French Open are working and the quality is good enough (I watch the second, it's around 18 fps but the ball can be seen.)

Yes you are right, staying close worked for him copule of times, he got return winners, but most of the time it doesn't.

They both hold at love. 2-2.

It is starting to rain.

It would be great to have this match suspended for the day. Kudos to TTC for gaining rights to Wimbledon, the US Open, Roland, and Australian. Hopefully, online streaming of the other show courts will be available for all slams. Next, they need to have the commentators from the streams moved over to the main broadcast.

Can players receive coaching during a rain delay? I am pretty sure Wilander has a couple of things to say to PHM.
