How many shoes do pros get?

Bobby Jr

Sure he may get his shoes free but he is not obligated to wear Adidas, he can wear what ever he wants
Considering all the photos of him wearing Adidas shoes in public, at training, at promo events, dancing etc... I'd say he does have deal with them for sure.

Just because no one has heard of a deal doesn't mean there isn't one. A lot of pros have signed deals that we haven't even heard of.

Pros get one pair per year and are obligated by contract to wear that single pair for the entire year and nothing else.

They get a new pair every Christmas.

I actually am a 100% sure that he has nothing signed with adidas that obligates him to wear them (at this point). He can wear any color or combo of them he wants and he can wear any other shoe on the court.
The photographic evidence of him off-court suggests to me an agreement exists.

Just how detailed/restrictive it is is another story. Maybe he's using it as a stop gap until Sergio Tacchini produce a performance shoe for him.

Just read carefully a contract signed by a pro player (ranck around 50 atp) with a top brand.
About forniture, the contract said : a reasonable quantity of stuff..... then he told me that he can go to the outlet and have as much pairs he wants (obviously not 100 !).
Another friend, that is about 200, got just 5 free pairs a year from Asics but he got other pairs from other atp friends.

I guess Adidas does not need AT ALL any advertisement on Djokovic's web site...not a single word "Adidas" on there...

You're pointing out a perceived lack of evidence as your evidence that no contract exists. ? Seriously?

The best endorsement any player could give a brand is wearing it. That is what he does - on court, in practice, in training and out casually. This is almost a clear indication you're dead wrong. The fact he doesn't have Adidas on his website means nothing in terms of his agreement and could merely be an obvious condition of his Sergio Tacchini lifetime contract that he isn't involved in promoting other clothing brands through signs/adverts.

I have a contract w/ adidas and can tell you Novak does indeed have a contract w/ them for shoes. And he is not the only player on the men's or women's tours who has a clothing deal w/ another brand and a separate shoe deal. adidas, like Nike and some other companies, makes more $ off of shoe sales than apparel so shoe only deals are not at all uncommon.

Save us from that Lawyer crap please...
I am not showing ANY evidence of anything, I am just questioning the logic that if he were sponsored by Adidas, wouldn't you expect their logo on his web page.

Again, Novak is NOT sponsored by Adidas. They certainly profit from him wearing their shoes, however, CURRENTLY, he is not under a contract with them. He could show up with Nikes tomorrow and all would be fine...

You say you're questioning the logic of it and then proceed to talk as if you know what you think to be fact despite the evidence we do have showing the opposite.

It's not lawyer crap. It's bog standard fermi problem solving based on common sense.

He wears Adidas shoes in basically every photo which isn't formal attire that I can see so the starting point would be to assume that he is indeed sponsored by them... you know, as one of the most identifiable sportspeople on the planet.

The fact he doesn't have anything on his website probably mean squat. Djokovic's website doesn't mention Adidas as a sponsor. I cant see any section about or Sergio Tacchini logo either. But there are at least 5 photos of him wearing Adidas non-tennis shoes off-court (and even one of his father wearing them too).

I wonder how they get used to all those shoes they have like the next day....because it takes me like 2 days till I can get used to my shoes.

Custom ortho and the upper they use for pro shoes may be a little bit different from the retail ones. Thinner, softer.

I don't think that necessarily means he has a deal.

Maybe he just wears them because he likes those shoes and finds that Adidas makes high quality products?
Most brands have a certain type of fit. If he prefers Adidas tennis shoes, is it so far off that he also prefers Adidas training and runnings shoes?

Bla bla bla.... I was clearly referring to his website as that was what you were talking about - not whether there were news items and articles plastered all over the internet about Djokovic's deal with Sergio Tacchini. Keller sports is a retail site which is unlikely to have offical association with any of those players at all.

I totally get where you're coming from in your thinking. I just cannot see how you continue to make statements with which there are evidence for whatsoever (unless you're the sort of muppet who consider a lack of evidence as proof that something doesn't exist), and then pillar others for making a case - with evidence, anecdotal or otherwise - why their view is the more likely.

Your response is just: he definitely does not have a contract and nothing else.

Show me anything at all which indicates this and I'll concede the point. Until then I'll keep posting photos of Djokovics and his clan exclusively wearing Adidas shoes they supposedly bought from Tennis Warehouse or wherever.

Lastly, that final article at thestockmarketwatch.com is so full of oddities, contradictions and grammar errors I'd say it's about as reliable as a chocolate fire-guard.

Dumb *** (since we're calling each other names):

1) I showed you at least 5 CLEAR links that he has NOTHING with Adidas, read, or ask your mommy to read it for you... Don't you think his agent or Adidas would jump in if a source like CBS claimed he "ditched" Adidas?!

2) I was referring to his web page when telling you to check your eyes -- ST is clearly on it, Head is there, Serbia Telecom is there, NO Adidas. Check your eyes and check your logic before embarassing yourself...

WOW, all that junk and no answer to any of my statements above.
You just want to sound smart, in the end you wrote a bunch of crap...

Again, Djokovic can wear ANY shoes on and off court that he wants. On the other hand, he cannot wear anything else but ST during the match -- get that? That is because he has a contract (sponsorship) from ST and no contract from Adidas.

Does Adidas pay him for wearing their shoes? No. Not a dime now.
Do they charge him to wear Adidas shoes? Probably not, however, it is easily possible that he must purchase their shoes just like you and I.
I retract what I said above.

You have actually surpassed NadalAgassi.

Show me anything which says Djokovic can wear any shoes he wants and I'll believe you. If not, then it is folly to ignore the fact that he does, as do his coach and father, wear Adidas shoes all the time.

Hinging your argument on websites showing sponsors list which, as I said above, clearly wouldn't include all endorsements - especially where promotion clauses are entirely, in fact implausible for their not to be - is a chain of evidence that is so flimsy it is barely worth wasting the time to respond to it. The fact that you manage to form your posts with a fair level of coherence suggests to me that you are not a fool, rather you chose to ignore the obvious fact that he wears just the one brand of sports shoes - all. the. time. while frantically searching the web for any mention of his break-up with Adidas and taking snap-shots of banners etc.

I think I have to agree with Bobby Jr. here. I seriously doubt Djokovic would be wearing adidas shoes without a deal of some sort with them. Why would he want to basically give away advertising for adidas for free? Seeing as he wears adidas shoes on court, in the gym, and for casual use, it seems as if he must have a deal of some sort with them. Added to that is the fact that his brother Marko has exactly the same thing going; Tacchini clothing and adidas shoes. Also his team all wear adidas training shoes, as well as the fact that he was wearing custom miAdidas Barricades in his national colours in Australia, which was another great advertisement for adidas. Obviously there isn't really anything that supports what I'm saying, merely an observation that it wouldn't make sense for him to wear adidas without a shoe deal with them of some sort.
It would be interesting to see what kind of shoe deal (if any) the guys who wear brands that don't make performance shoes have, e.g. Lacoste, Tacchini. Someone on the board (I think it was Fee) said guys like Gasquet and Benneteau, who wear lacoste apparel and Asics shoes, just get the shoes on a tournament by tournament basis. They get the shoes (and I assume some payment for endorsing them) at the beginning of the tournament because Asics are trying to build their reputation, and are more willing to supply those who don't have a shoe sponsor. So they may not have a permanent deal with them.
But then someone else like Llodra or Raonic who also wear Lacoste but then Nike shoes may have some sort of deal with Nike, as they seem to wear exclusively Nike shoes. It's the same for a lot of the doubles players - guys like Nestor, Lukas Dlouhy, Zimonjic (I think) all seem to wear Nike shoes, but different apparel sponsors. Tommy Haas also has been wearing Nike shoes for ages, (he was previously sponsored by them) even while he was with K Swiss and after he switched to that other sponsor he was with. And he was wearing shoes out of production, like older models that are harder to get hold of. Or maybe that were on sale if he was buying them himself. But then I recall seeing Benneteau wearing Nike shoes, so it could be that the Nike shoe guys are just buying them.
Then there's Wawrinka, who used to be with adidas, changed to lacoste, but still wears Adidas shoes in exactly the same way as Djokovic. Maybe due to former ties with adidas, they are willing to supply Stan and Nole with shoes for free as they are bigger name players who will generally go further in tournaments and therefore end up promoting the shoes more.

Why do you advertise Adidas for free in your neghborhood?
Because you like them and they fit you right... I tried Nike and others and always came back to Adidas because I liked them the best, not because they are the cheapest or...

I read somewhere that Adidas contract specifies that athlete must wear Adidas head to toe, unlike Nikes for example that allow athletes to combine... That is another reason Adidas is not sponsoring Djokovic.

Cannot find A SINGLE word on him being still sponsored by Adidas:

http://www.therichest.org/sports/highest-paid-tennis-players-2011/

There is ABSOLUTELY no way that Babolat would not jump in if CBS reported that Rafa is "ditching" Babolat, if not true... No word from Adidas or Nole's agents contradicting the info (not only one source reported him LEAVING adidas).

There is ABSOLUTELY no way that brand like Adidas would not be listed on his official web page or any retailer web page if they sponsored him.

Well there's a difference between the number one player in the world wearing adidas and an amateur player wearing it. Adidas are receiving enormous amounts of interest because Novak is wearing their shoes but that's because he is the number one tennis player in the world and therefore is known by millions all over the world. And why would he want to keep doing that with no benefit to him? The main reason players black out brand names on shoes or clothes is so said sponsors don't get added advertisement/promotion without any benefit for the player.

But you didn't address any of my other points about the other players. Like the fact that Marko (his brother) now wears exactly the same stuff as Novak, which suggests that he gets the same sort of deal as Novak (obviously not in monetary terms, but in terms of apparel and shoes).
For a top pro like Djokovic, I very much doubt he wears Adidas just because he likes the way they feel. For a lower ranked player, they might buy lots of a certain brand to attract that brand and hopefully land a sponsorship deal. But for the world number 1, he won't have to worry about attracting sponsors, as they'll basically be begging him to endorse them. He probably has something worked out where adidas will give him and his team whichever shoes he wants, as long as he just keeps wearing them. It's probably exactly the same deal as Wawrinka has, another former Adidas player who wears ONLY adidas shoes, but has nothing that suggests he has a deal with them on his website.

Novak would not play with Adidas shoes without getting a load of cash.

Novak right now it is the most valuable form of advertising in tennis and one of the biggest in sports.

As much as his family and He like money I bet He would not use those shoes for free and I bet Nike and other companies have offered him millions to use their shoes, I guess Adidas offered him more.

This is not correct. Nike sponsored athletes are not allowed to combine brands, they must wear Nike from head to toe.

You are thinking of LaCoste signed athletes that wear Nike shoes. LaCoste does not make truly high performance shoes, so they allow their sponsored players to have separate shoe deals. The only one I know of that has a specific marketing contract is Andy Roddick with Babolat shoes. Gasquet and other LaCoste athletes may wear Nike shoes, but I haven't seen them in any Nike ads or marketing.

As for Novak, I am going to SPECULATE (just like everyone else in this thread, but I'm admitting it) that he has an "agreement" with adidas to wear their shoes in exchange for an unlimited supply and maybe even a little bit of cash, but his Sergio Tacchini contract (which I think is ten years, not lifetime) forbids him from actively marketing their products. So, he can wear them everywhere and be photographed in them, but he cannot appear in adidas branded advertising, nor can he put their logo on his website (because that would usurp the ST logo).

This thread is deteriorating into wild guesses, gross misinformation, and namecalling. It needs to be locked before it gets worse.

Thanks for the info. So if Nike don't allow their sponsored players to wear anything else apart from Nike, are those Lacoste players (Llodra, Nestor, Raonic) simply buying the shoes? I remember Raonic especially wore some shoes that were exclusive to Nike sponsored players, and never went on sale publicly.

I doubt they are paying for their shoes, I'm sure Nike gives the Lacoste guys a certain allotment per year. Most of them are high profile enough to be worth the $2000 to $5000 that would cost for a season. That's pennies to Nike.

Wow, I can't believe this thread is still going. I have already said it's absurd to think there is no shoe deal with Adidas and Nole. If you recall he used to use Wilson rackets until Head decided to pay him more to use theirs, which you should also recall was not a smooth transition for Nole, as he struggled for sometime with the new rackets. So why would he switch rackets for money, which is of course the hardest equipment change to make, but keep wearing a product for free, just because it feels good, since we already know he will switch to something that doesn't feel good for money? Of course this is an absurd thought, because only for at least the last 25 years, the top tennis players have been making huge money endorsing everything you see on them, but now, the most dominant player in the sport is wearing something for free, because he likes how it feels, laughable.

There are far more posts regarding the Adidas/Nole topic, so clearly that is the thread, but to answer the question, and it is a broad question, because of course the top guys will get however many they want, versus the lower guys getting one for each foot, as previously stated.
