BC1 you already left the 95D? Why? I don't understand how you can go from so much enthusiasm about a racquet to switching in a matter of days. It takes most of us months..lol.

Power, I know. And I agree. Its beyond ridiculous. Part of the problem is I have too many racquets in the bag and at the courts making it too easy for me to switch mid match or midgame. A formula for disaster! I still like the 95d a lot and find it to be a fantastic easy playing "players racquet ". However, after the excitement wore down I started thinking about the pds again. Strung one up and played with it just as good if not better then I did with 98d. It all boils down to me and my focus and the effort I put into it. The racquet selection seems to have very little to do with it. Except maybe get me pumped up for the honeymoon!

Anyway long story short, I can still send back the 95d for a full refund from tw as it was used to begin with. And if I'm honest with myself, the pd or pdr is probably best for my 3.5/4.0 game. (You've pointed this out as well to me) . I have no arm issues with the pd and ive been hooked on this frame for years. Might as well embrace it again. Hopefully I will stop searching for something else. I really have no reason to change. Never have for that matter. Now that ive tried virtually everything out there, I'm back where I started.

Good to know jack. Thank you. However, imight just keep it. Played with if today for the first time and I was very happy with everything. Weight, balance, and strings. So happy, that on impulse I went to the local shop and traded my apdgt for a pdr. So Im totally back on board with the pds. And I'm going to try my best to stay!

Jack. You called me out on my 95d venture. You were right. But on that day I was so sure. Oh well, Im a little embarrassed I didn't stick with the yonex more, but that's par for the course. It is a great racquet though. Hell, they all are! That's the problem.

Ironically, I'm back where I was over two months ago. One pd2012 and one pdr2012. Now I'm finding myself in your shoes... which one to play with. I hit with both today.xsrarted out with pdr and then after I startedfeeling the sw, I switched to the standard, which was a good change at the time. I know I cant keep that up though, and got to pick one. Right now I'm leaning toward the reg pd2012. I have the weight and grip right where I want it.

Time to change my signature back to the pd2012. Should have given it a day or two for the excitement to wear off!

strung.

Welcome home BC! Lol

Next time be a little more careful about your thread titles ;-)

But about the PD vs the PDR, it sounds like you have a slight issue with the sw of the PDR, which I really don't. But the solution is simple. Add lead to the regular PD so its in between both stock....something like 330-335 grams in total. I recommend adding (4) 4" (1/2" wide) strips. 2 at 12' and 2 at 6'. That will keep balance about the same...make it one pt less HL. I nodded my stds this way and they feel like a perfect mid point between the std and the pdr.

Ok, it is just crazy to make a thread about it and not even give the racquet 2-3 weeks. I don't know..I thought maybe the stick bugged your arm, because that was the case with me.

Thinking about the racquet all the time is pointless out there. It's not the racquet after a while ya know? If your arm hurts, maybe it is that or the strings, but to keep thinking about other racquets is not good. I'd sell everything and get lessons. Thats just me, I know you will probably agree and then keep demoing sticks though..lol.

Anyway good lessons have changed my tennis game WAY faster than any stick.

what makes you think he doesn't take lessons? Is it not possible to try a lot of racquets AND take lessons? PP, I think everyone here knows the best way to improve your game is to take lessons. But thanks for that revelation . It's like telling someone who's trying to lose weight to eat less.

How's this..sell your racquets and JUST spend that $$ on lessons = tennis profit.

Does that wording make it better for you to read?

Is it? I doubt it.

Each of those sticks hurt my arm after a while dude. I don't know what else to tell you. I'm not going out there thinking that I may win if I have a different racquet or anything. I have 3 200s and those things are like aloe on the joints for me.

Weight lifting has really caused some issues.

But my point is real simple. I guess it was missed. Don't think about the racquet out there. Only time I do is if I feel pain.

Ok, it just didnt seem that way. No hard feelings. It is text you know.

I tried enough sticks so really I just put my advice to BC1 because he is all over the place sometimes, but I can tell he digs the PD.

When it comes down to PD vs APDC or Pro Open and you are wondering which you play better with..IMO it's not worth stressing over. You go with the one that you feel best about and don't look back. The reason I think 1 on 1 lessons cure some of this stuff is it gets your mind off the racquet on the court and instead you will be focused on technique.

I just don't see how anyone can go wrong with the PD or PDR as long as they don't feel pain.

I am just tired of your hypocritical and elitist posts. Everything you discover with your racquets or strings is always the "greatest" and hits the "heaviest ball ever" and then 2 months later, you are proclaiming something else is the "greatest ever". You always know what's best for everyone else and you are never wrong. That's you dude.

I'll make you a deal...I'll quit being "so sour all the time", if you stop being so judgemental and such a "know it all" all the time.

None of that you said is even true. I never say anything of the sort. Are you off your meds? Seriously, if you are tired of me, put me on ignore. I don't even talk to you much on here, and you seem to come in to threads I am in and follow my posts. I find good setups and good racquets. Stop reading my posts if you are this bothered by it. Maybe stay out of the threads I am in, since you seem to come in and take shots and reply to everything I say. Is this normal behavior for you?

Yes. Lesson learned. No more posts or threads from me about "best ever " or "found my racquet " etc. We all know that is not possible and I believe we ALL occassionally fall into that trap. Yes PP I know my time and effort would be best spent focusing on my technique or getting lessons. Something I actually hope to do soon. But to be totally honest, the best thing I could do for my game and my racquetholism is to stay away from all of these racquets threads.

I start reading posts about all the great qualities in other racquets or bad about whatever one I may be playing with, and as crazy as I know it is, I buy into it and start thinking way more about the equipment then I should. Its hard to be happy racquet wise when you spend too much time on this site. No matter what you're playing with.

And YES we all deep down know the racquet really doesnt make that much of a difference. Its just part of the fun (or it use to be!) Now lets all just relax! No reason for anyone to get too serious over this nonsense. Its all good!

BC, just do whatever gives you the most enjoyment out of the sport. If reading these racquets threads gets into your head and makes you miserable, then maybe you should stay away until you are set with your racquet choice? For me, I enjoy it and it just adds to my overall enjoyment of the sport. But I have been lucky enough to not let it affect my play too much and have continued to improve from 3.0 to 4.0 in around 3 years. I would probably be slightly better if I stayed with 1 racquet for all of that 3 years, but its just my hobby and not my job, so I am cool with it. But do whatever makes you happy dude!

Jack, dgdavid, and power player, we four have been all around these boards and on most of the same threads. I truly enjoy and look forward to all of your comments and replies. Jack, like you, I love this site. Couldn't stay away if I wanted to. I do let some of the recommendations and opinions influnece me more then they should, but I'm working on that (I will be sticking with the pd for a while, though for some reason I'm having a hard time shipping that 95d back). If I were to spend half the amount of time on the courts that I do on this site, none of this would be an issue. Anyway, point being, lets keep the friendly and fun discussions going! It looks like jack and I will be on team babolat and Dgdavid and power on team yonex - at least for the next week or so :)

BC, one thing that helps my compulsive nature is to only leave the house with 1 model racquet in my bag. That way there is no possible temptation while I play and I just focus on business at hand on the courts. I do playtest a lot, but I try to give a new racquet a solid 2 weeks by itself. Then i make up my mind.

Regarding PP, if he wants to ignore me, that's his loss :)
I just get so tired of everyone assuming that us "racquet-aholics" don't know about or take lessons to work on our game. I have heard it one too many times and PPs comment pushed me over the edge. It's hard for me to stay mad at him though because he does provide a lot of good useful info. I just wish he would be a little less judgemental in the tone of his posts sometimes. If he wants to squash it, I'll squash it and move on.

So much drama for a forum. It's really odd, but hey BC, The vcore95 looks like some specs I am definitely interested. I wouldn't mind losing half an oz off the Diablo Tours., how come you gave it up?

Why do you like the pdr more?

So we're back to discussing the PD2012, right? OK.

I have a PD12+ coming next week. Long-time APDGT+ user, former PDGT+ user. Demoed the 2012+ a few weeks back but wanted to tame it with tighter strings. Now I'll get my chance, and if I don't like it, it'll become a trade-in.

Hi All,

I'm officially out of the club, but will happily attend all former alumni functions, and will cheer the team. The 2012 PD+ is a fine stick, but the shoe just doesn't fit. I've been sniffing around more arm friendly frames and have discovered the Donnay P1. I'm finding more control, more power, and a much sweeter feel. Not sure what I will end up with, but the P1 is a stick I found a groove with instantly and can play with now in my team matches.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 95d. Played great with it,especially the first time out. As everyone says, its probably the easiest playing best all around 95 out there. There is no logic as to why I stopped giving it a true go and decided to go back to the pd. I think I don't give myself enough credit and I start thinking I would be better off with a pd type frame, especcially against stronger players. So, this reality, true or untrue, starts to set in, and I think well if I would just give the pd as much focus and dedication that I do when playing with a player racquet, imagine how good I could be with it. And true enough, when I do play like that, the pd works out great for me. I just cant get lazy with it or any other racquet. There, that was my thought process, flaws and all, or something similar to that.

I do not necessarily like the pdr more. If I were to pick the best for me if would probably be the standard pd2012. The pdr isvery nice, but the 95d is actually easier to swing and manuever. The are really very different racquets though.

Curious to see how you like it. Ive never tried the plus version, but I know many players that love it (power player included, except for the arm issue). I hear once you get use to an extended length frame its hard to go back.

jack/bc, despite all the very correct arguments on why we need to pick one racket, what is wrong with trying lots of rackets on an ongoing basis because we WANT to do it because we LIKE and ENJOY it? I drove up to Parliament yesterday and they confirmed that it definitely is not against the law...

i do only take one model to matches now. but i take loads to club socials and mix-ins!

David, its legal here in the States as well! But evidently I can get jail time for incorrectly declaring "I found what I've been looking for". I'm. Now on probation. :)

Seriously though, for me personally, as much as I love to demo all the racquets I canget a hold of, it has recently just complicated everything for me because I like them all so much and I feel I can play almost equally well with any number of them, yet for my own piece of mind I NEED to just have one racquet. For once I want to go to the courts without the equipment being on my mind. Its a great feeling when that happens and my game is usually better.

what about my compromise idea? The std + lead tape?

My pd2012 came pre-compromised courtesy of Babolat. The weight is already 11.3 without overgrip and dampner. Fully loaded with some extra tape and og on the butt to increase the flare it is 11.6 or 11.7 depending on the dampner. And its 5 pts HL. So it feels perfect without lead and is just slightly lighter then my pdr2012. SW is probably around 320. I could add a little lead to the head, but I don't want to increase sw weight mord then what it is.

I find it interesting that according to Babolat the Pdr2012 should weigh 11.6 strung, yet the pdr2012 that tw reports on and lists the specs for is 11.9. That's a big difference. I know they suppossedly take the average of 4-5 racquets, but they should probably list the manufacturers spec weight in their description. The 11.9 weight may scare some people away. I always thought I had a light pdr2012, when in fact it was right on spec.

I have the same affliction. Right now use the PD for matches (mostly) but also flirt with the Ozone Tour, and an N-Tour2 I can't get rid of. Also go back to my Dunlop's on occasion. It probably does my game no favours but as you say some people just enjoy tinkering!

The biggest problem for me with the constent tinkering and demoing is that I loose some confidence in my racquet, and confidence is everything in this game. If you have confidence that the "racquet" will perform great it amazingly usually does. Its funny how that works.

both my PDRs are 12 oz or 340 grams fully loaded and those were the lightest ones they could find for me at TW. I ALWAYS find TW's specs to be lower than actual, especially swingweight.
but then subtract 5 g's for overgrip, mine are 335 g's or 11.8 oz, which is fine, except mine where the "lightest ones they could find", and they have hundreds in stock??

Jack, just curious, does that weight of 335g, 11.8 ounces include the rubber band grip thingy that goes over the top of the grip. I have had two pdr2012s that i got locally and both of them were 11.6 strung with poly. But that is without the rubber thing and of course the plastic off the handle. With overgrip 11.8. Regardless, I guess they are all pretty close.

Played with the pd again today. Doing well with it and I'm liking the rpm 18. Good control and it seems to be less powerful then alu power. Surprisingly nice feel. Very comfortable on the arm as well. Didn't feel stiff. I think the 18 gauge helps soften it up a bit. Not sure how it compares to 17gauge rpm as I haven't used it in a long time or in this racquet.

I also left the other racquets at home. And very glad I did. Thanks for the tip guys. It was nice not having the option to switch and I know it made me play better. I was able to focus on my game instead of the equipment for once.

Guys, I have some breaking news!

Heard that the Organix 8 315 was same specs as the PDR, maybe a little lighter, so I gave it a try again. I briefly demoed the X8 315 when it first came out and it felt heavy at that time, but now that I'm used to the PDR, the X8-315 feels just right :) The PDR feels ever so slightly heavy at times, but the X8 seems to hit my weight and swingweight happy zone. So yesterday I played a match with the PDR and did OK, but never really had that "comfortable" feeling when you aren't thinking about the racquet. Tonite I used the X8 315 and played great with it! I won my 2nd ever match at the 4.0 level and never served better. I blasted through the 1st set 6-1 and hung on to win the 2nd set 7-5, after trailing 3-5. With the X8, I DID have that "comfortable" feeling and all my shots were clicking. Winners came easier than usual and I had no complaints about the racquet at all. I know, I know...honeymoon ;-) but I am hoping I have stumbled onto something here. I was planning on sticking with either the PD or PDR, but so far, this works better for me than either of those. The X8 was strung with B5E mains and Explosiv crosses and that combo played nice, even though I normally am not a poly mains guy. Lots of power but controllable with all the spin this thing generates. So we'll see!

please pardon the "non PD" review, but I though you guys might be interested.

^^^^^^ SEE!! this is what I'm talking about! As soon as I get comfortable with a racquet you read something like this and it makes you want to try it.

Actually jack, I'm not surprised. Ive heard some very good things about the x8 315. And its been recommended to me by others as something similar to the pdr but lighter and better /different feel.

Glad it worked out. Hope it continues.

I am going to stay with it until it stops working. I think the key for us "types" is to stop once you find something that you are comfortable with. I WAS comfortable with the PD and then started messing around with the heavier swinging Pro One and Rad Pro and then the PDR. I have liked the PDR, but never felt like it was "the one". The X8-315 feels similar to the PDR, but ever so slightly easier to swing.

BC...next time you feel "satisfied" with what you are using, STOP and stay with it for a while. If its the PD or the PDR, it doesn't matter. You had that feeling with the 95 D...why did you change again? Next time you play near your peak level with whatever stick, that's the one to stay with.

I had a tough game last night with a powerful flat hitter blasting groundstrokes straight at me and to my feet right on the baseline. Shanked a few and would normally think "what other racket would have helped me get these back". But not realise it is more about the quality of the incoming shots and not looking to change. Progress...

BC, has your 1hbh start clicking with the PD Standard?

Jack, is the PD now unquestionably better for you than the Warrior. I had the odd experience of far preferring the PD to the Warrior when playing but my results per not so good and regular results preferred me with PD in hand!

The PD and the Warrior are pretty much interchangeable. One isn't "better" than the other. Its all about whichever one feels better to you and gives you confidence to play consistently with it. So I really can't say which I think is better. I was 100% fine with the Warrior when I had it and also with the PD.
I think the PD has a stiffer feel and the Warrior a softer feel.

I did mean for you personally rather than in general. For me, the Warrior is distinctly preferable but people are different. I have to be careful of nostalgic views though. I went back to the IG Prestiges briefly due to fond memories of heavy flat winners but quickly remembered why I sold it first time round! Pretty settled with the Exo3 Graphites now but Warrior still keeps popping into my head. £90 on SportsDirect so might pick one up. Paid £152 each first time round.

Something is wrong with my pure drive 2012

Ok i had this PD 2012 for about 3 month now. Playing with it about 2-3 times per week, strung about once per week.
I have scraped and scratched on cement many times on normal course of play. but i am now noticing something very odd. I am losing control. Balls are flying out at odd times for no reason. Control on this racket is Gone.

I have looked for cracks but can't find any obvious ones. Please help. IS this defective racket ? and if so, what should i do ?

Sounds like you need to restring and up the tension 2-4 lbs. Balls tend to fly in the summer, plus your technique might be getting lazier in the heat.
