why can't Part 1 have just as much action as the part 2 ? We are paying Same amount of money to see part 1, are we not ? Do you pay the same amount for the Appetizer when you go to the restaurant ? as much as you pay for the main course ?
I'd pay more for less action tbh...

Foxcatcher

How the wealthy get to be called eccentric instead of mentally ill. Faithful account of a true story, Steve Carell takes a shot at serious drama and comes across as wooden and at times almost catatonic.

assault on wall street. Linc from prison break goes all out. Fantastic film if your a fan of revenge exploitation IE ... Deathwish, Punisher etc. etc.

Little warning though. Its pretty hard core. Not gory but its a ruthless film. Its probably the guttiest film I have seen since fight club. I dont know how the director was ever allowed to make it.

Shadowlands - Anthony Hopkins, Debra Winger.

Enjoyed it.

Shadowlands. Anthony Hopkins at the top of his game, with good acting all around and excellent direction from Sir Richard Attenborough. Only movie I will admit to cry to on a consistent basis.

Based on the tragic death of C.S. Lewis' wife shortly after marriage.

Thanks for your recommendation, FOE.

Being There (1979).
Peter Sellers is outstanding in this well-cast movie, that may have inspired to Forrest Gump (which is based on a script written just a year or two after Being There).

^(Applause)^

That movie was incredible.

Interesting, i never knew gump was written in the early 80s. Makes total sense.

I liked forest gump. Saw it in the theater 20 yrs ago. Chauncey the gardener was my first thought when forest met president kennedy. Gump was funny and sweet, but Being There was moving. Even the background graffiti was insightful in that film.

Steel Magnolias - Julia Roberts (nominee), Dolly Parton, Sally Field.

The funeral scene was hilarious.

Since you guys are talking about Forrest Gump, Sally was Hanks' mother in FG, and Julia's mother in Steel Magnolias.
Recently saw her in Murphy's Romance with James Garner.

Spoiler:

I seem to have watched 3 movies in a row in which a main character dies in the end, Terms of Endearment, Shadowlands and Steel Magnolias.

I went to a theater to watch "Tequila Sunrise" in college, but my date and I were told to leave, because someone complained that we were making out too much. We went back to her dorm, which was a much better plan in my opinion, but I still have not seen the movie.

I hate these kind of movies (Terms of Endearment and Steel Magnolias). They are only good to make you depressing. You should watch A Walk to Remember and Love Story next and make it 5 in a row.

its actually a really good film. The casting is fantastic. all of the actors had great chemistry. Even the supporting cast is excellent. Its even good on a re watch and not depressing at all. easily one of the best films all the actors have taken part in.

These are mostly for my mother who is very old. I do show her some lighter movies too. We did see Love Story a few months back at her request.

Oh by the way, Mum wants to see Silence of the Lambs (she says she has faint memories of it) for the sake of Anthony Hopkins.

edit : we did like Shadowlands and Remains of the Day a lot.

I've seen Fatal Attraction about ten years back, and it creeped me out big-time. Never, never seeing it again !!!

"A walk to remember" - i don't much care for the coming-of-age category.

I'll think about the other two, but i have a huge list, still.

Nice of you.

You should show her some nicer films with Anthony Hopkins, like The World's Fastest Indian for example, although not sure if that is something that would interest her. But a nice little movie and Anthony Hopkins is really good there.

Stating the obvious but Legends of the Fall is another one to see with him IMO.

I was not serious about A Walk to Remember, just mentioned it as another one of those movies where main character dies of terrible disease at the end.

try Hanover street for your mother. its an old fashioned WW2 love story. harrison ford is pretty young in it..... pre indiana jones. its worth a watch though.

if you want a good up beat movie you can both watch try Cocoon. its a classic that nobody really remembers. lots of fun stuff in Cocoon 1 and 2. Ron howard directed them.

A Good Day to Die hard....aka Die hard 5. This movie got trashed when it first came out but I liked it. its probably my least favorite of the Die Hard films but its good for modern day action films. i think they should have made it a good 1/2 hour longer and gone into more detail of the plot but modern audiences dont tend to like intricate story lines in action films anymore so whatever. it definitely has a lot of action. pretty much the entire film is one long action sequence. not that the plot is bad its just that other die hard films usually have more focus on the Bad guys.

Norma ray LOL. nice propaganda film. whats next for you Sentinel....some Barbara streisand or jane Fonda? I prescribe a fewing of Predator and Tango and Cash before your we-we falls off and you start shopping for a keurig. if that doesnt work try Fight club and also Warrior.

Talking of Jane Fonda, i do have Julia lined up. Fonda and Redgrave.

I think we'll see Silence of the Lambs tonight, Marvin's Room tomorrow, and Schindler's List day after.

p.s. I've finally started Lost Season 1. Yippeeeee !

I have a suspicion that there is nothing to "understand" in that movie. I was fooled by the fact that every critic gave a 5 star rating. Ben Affleck was very good but the woman was terrible. The entire story seemed to have no theme.

Did you just say the woman was terrible? Rosamund Pike gave one of the finest performance of her career. Gone Girl is one of the best films of 2014.

Regarding Ms. Pike, I wasn't all that impressed with her performance, and a few reviews I read suggested that except for her scenes with the drifters at the motel, her acting was a little wooden.

I don't know about the rest of her career. I think you are correct in the sense that if the role was absurd, she was absurd too. But I couldn't get past her role.

Frankly, what is the movie about? Ben Affleck's role was fantastic, but his wife's role was absurd, and the female police officer was a caricature of the supposedly sarcastic female in a leadership role. The news anchors were caricatures too, and unrealistic. If the movie was supposed to be a parody, it had certain parts which did not fit into that genre either. I just don't understand the 5 star reviews it got.

Saw the new penguin cartoon, It was just that, very cartoonish. Think of the roadrunner cartoons, but with explainations of why they survived the various catastrophies.
Our newspaper (what's that?) gave it a good review- I would give it a "C".

Actually, I have taken a liking to movies about old people -- perhaps it has to do with having been a caregiver for my father for many years. I've loved many movies recently like On Golden Pond, Away from Her, Nebraska, August Osage County, The Straight Story, Trip to Bountiful (1985 version), About Schmidt, Something's Gotta Give, Bucket List ... and plenty more ...

"Rooting for Hopkins" would be a fun title.

War of the Roses is so dark. The final scene (I won't spoil it) is a classic. If the film was rubbish - it isn't- it would still be worth seeing for the final few minutes alone. Great choice.
