But that doesn't seem fair. You can change your pick until a match starts. If a player retires hours before it denies you that opportunity. Is there a precedent?
The problem with this is how do we know when a player pulls out ? Highlighted in this tournament for some as it's being held during the night.. we could have rumours flying about on here half an hour before an official announcement and players could jump on Djokovic to get a bye before official announcement.

The rule states - You cannot advance to the next round via a walkover since it is hard to know exactly when someone announced they were pulling out HOWEVER this rule does not apply once you reach the semifinals

My interpretation is that anyone left in can pick Djokovic (apart from me, I've used him) and if he ends up getting a bye then so be it. Even if you pick him after Fed retires even though that sounds bizarre

There was chat about this about 5 or 6 years ago and that's why back ups were introduced but an exception was made of semi finals.

Anyone got and info or advice to add, please do..

In my view, and from what I understood, it seems like a free pick (which of course is bad). However, it also raises the question on if you want to save that player for the final.

For instance, say I think Djokovic is going to win the final. I want to save him for the final, so I pick Thiem in the SF. Djokovic either plays or gets a W/O, but regardless of what happens, I still have Djokovic as a potential pick in the final if he gets there, assuming Thiem wins.

The other scenario is that I don't believe Thiem can beat Zverev or vise versa. Then I will choose Djokovic. I still bet on Djokovic to beat Federer, and even in the case of a W/O, nothing really changes. The chance of advancing just went up a bit.

In any case where someone would pick Djokovic, it's not that big of a change if Federer gives a W/O.

I can see the case for being able to pick the easy W/O, but I think that in most of these cases, the rumors of a potential W/O are already flying before the match (and most of the time that player loses anyway).

As the semis are scheduled for 1 day apart then I think in this case we should set a cut off point for the first semi - it's scheduled for 8.30 UK so I suggest then if there's a pull out.

For example - I don't think we can have players picking Djokovic a day later, half an hour before the 2nd semi

Exactly! Even if you pick Zverev in the SF and he wins, I am not sure you will be allowed to pick Djokovic in the Final if Fed gives a WO.

Halep gave a W.O. to Muguruza in Doha'18. I was not allowed to pick Muguruza in the Final.

It looks like you changed your pick to Woz and she lost in the semis.. It was 2 years ago ..perhaps I made a mistake.

If anyone picks Zverev and he wins then yes they will have Djokovic in the final if he wins or gets a w/o

Well, I guess my road ends here, most likely.

Was a fun ride, some bery bery close cases starting with Evans’ escape on Day 1.

Just in case

Final: Zverev

That ends my nice little run. Good luck to those who are left. I hope Z pulls off the win tomorrow.
