As much as I'm enjoying the shotmaking in this Thiem-Monfils match, my god is it really exemplifying how slow these courts are.

I know they're both really good athletes, but even in day conditions with them both tearing the cover off the ball, they're able to get everything. These rallies are lasting forever.

I think it's the heavy balls not the courts. That's just my speculation but it doesn't seem like the courts are especially slow but the court in combination with the balls makes it slow.

To borrow another poaster's catchphrase, the way Thiem is able to return a ball from way behind the baseline so deep into the other side of the court is nothing short of stunning.

That being said, he could try returning a bit closer to the baseline on these hard courts.
