Three players will be playing in their first Slam main draw for the first time:
  • Marcelo Tomás Barrios Vera (Chile)
  • Daniel Masur (Germany)
  • Zhang Zhizhen (China)
Zhang is also the first Chinese man to reach the Wimbledon main draw in the Open Era

2-2 now, I forgot they play BO5 in the final round of qualies.

Close one but that's ok, Fery is virtually garanteed to be into the 1st round of main draw as lucky loser. Good luck Arthur. When was the last time lucky loser went all the way to the Final of wimbledon ??

Lucky losers are drawn based on ranking. There's no virtually no chance for Fery to be drawn unless some kind of disaster happens and tons of players withdraw

don't think so. they are drawn based on how many games they won.

It's a somewhat predictable pattern where youngsters come out all guns blazing but don't have the endurance to take a 3rd set and the match (although 2x tie-breaks do suggest he is fit enough to play 5 sets). His opponent is a fair few years older and much higher ranked so greater match fitness is to be expected. I'm sure he will be back next year fitter and hungrier after being so close this time. He may even be ranked high enough over the next few years to benefit from regular WCs.

I noticed 19 y.o. Nakashima made it through.

i need confirmation from wimbledon, they told me that games won is how lucky loser gets in. and they are almost ready for the matches. hopefully it won't stink

Lucky Losers and Substitutions

i. Lucky Losers Lucky Losers are those players who have lost in the final round of the Qualifying competition or, if more Lucky Losers are required, those players who have lost in the previous qualifying rounds. Lucky Losers shall be selected based on the computer rankings used for the determination of qualifying seedings as follows:

The order of the four (4) highest ranked players shall be randomly drawn, thereafter the order shall follow the players' rankings, unless there are more than two (2) main draw withdrawals at the time the Qualifying competition is finished in which case the size of the random draw will be the number of withdrawals plus two (2).

The Lucky Loser list will be posted each day at least one (1) hour prior to the sign-in deadline which will be one-half (½) hour before the first point is played in the first match. Such list shall not be available for sign-in on the preceding day.

The added random draw is a fairly recent change. Lucky losers used to be selected based on ranking only. Unfortunately, this led to players abusing the system. Players who knew there were going to be withdrawals and were the highest ranked player(s) remaining in the qualifying draw would just tank their last match, because they knew they would get in.

On the betting exchanges Federer is 4th favourite for Wimbledon at odds of 15. The longest odds I have ever seen on him pre Wimbledon.

He was among the Top 4 who lost in the final round of qualies:

1. #112 Majchrzak
2. #116 Cerundolo
3. #117 Uchiyama
4. #139 van de Zandschulp
5. #141 Gaio
oh, I see, I misread your earlier post. Bonzi, who would be the last top four actually won his qualifying match, which made van de Zandschulp the last top four loser. Did they publish the order of that top four losers? Meaning - who is the next in line in case someone withdraws before Monday?

I'm confused why Botic van de Zandschlup got awarded the first LL. He is _not_ one of four top-ranked players that lost in qualifications.
Yeah he is. He's #4.

Edit: Sorry, wasn't trying to pile on, didn't realize that your confusion was already answered upthread.

So new youngest Brit. Jake Drapper . Who “arrived” at Queens club, will face Nole on centre court. Lets hope he can make a few plucky shots to get the crowd involved , before his defeat,
Quite a good first round for interest

At least he's guaranteed one Centre Court match in his career. One that he'll remember for the rest of his life. Ideally, he'll be back as a force of his own three years down the road or so. We'll have to see.
